Keyword proximity refers to the closeness between two or more keywords. In general, the closer the keywords are, the better. It will help to understand the meaning of keyword rather than writing it in distance.

Keyword proximity refers to closeness of keywords. Your keywords should be close to each other in content of web page. Many people don't know about keywords. They generally treats key phrases as a keyword. Usually we do not target keyword.

A search term can be made up of a combination of keywords. The keyword proximity refers to the distance between the search term's individual keywords. For example: a website contains the keywords that make up the search term "Detroit Corporate Photographer" in the sentence "Detroit Photographer Blake Discher specializes in corporate photography". The search term proximity between "Detroit" and "Photographer" is excellent, zero words, but between "Photographer" and "corporate" it is four words. The smaller the distance between a search term's individual keywords, the more relevant it will be from a search engine's point of view.

Keyword proximity is the combination of keyword and it refers to the distance between individual keyword. In webpage content, the keyword must be close to each other. Eg "Digital Marketing" not as "Dig ital marketing"

I would say 3-4% keyword density is good for the content and for a result of so because over there you can target more keywords so chances will increase with the number keywords.

In my opinion, your keywords should be close to each other in content of the webpage. People usually treats key phrases as a keyword. Generally we do not target keyword.
In your case, the word "dog food" is not a key word. It is a key phrase. Here "food" is a one keyword and "dog" is another keyword.  To make proximity higher you should use both keywords in your content. Distance between "food" and "dog" in the sentence should be less to make proximity higher. Using your keywords again and again in content is not a good practice.

Keyword proximity is the distance between a search term's individual keywords. Proximity looks at the keyword in the sentence and how often it's being used in that sentence and also takes into account the distance between them.
