Alt text: images
« on: 09-06-2014, 12:30:52 »
Hello all
My previous seo specialist named all images of my website to my keywords:
Example:
http://edengalaxy.com/content/blogcategory/13/28/
Just put mouse on any image and u see the keywords: is this alt text?
Now my website scope has changed from local to global and general therapy to "bipolar", but the naming of the images still confuse google and most visitors on my site originate from spain even though my content is english and audience is global.
2 Qs:
1)how to sort them out with key words? Or rename them
2) I hear that if u stuff ur image names with keywords google will penalise u, is this true?
My site has been designed in joomla, is this something to do in joomla, and if yes where and how? Or should it be done thru my Cpanel? And how?
Many thanks

Images are important to websites.IMG tags can only have ALT elements. TITLE elements belong to A HREF tags. You can have both, but only ALT tags are believed to have any weight with search engines. They add value to the design, break up the text,Search engine spiders can’t read the text in images. The ALT tag is an attribute that allows you to add descriptive text which can be crawled by search engines. The purpose of the ALT tag is to describe the image. In SEO, the importance of the ALT tag ability to help your web page rank and if you choose to have images indexed, increase your exposure through image search.

Q. Just put mouse on any image and u see the keywords: is this alt text?
A. Its the Img Title text which you can see after getting your mouse on images. Alt text optimization helps for sure but make sure to use them without stuffing Check if the keywords are not stuffed and comes under less than 2-3% density.

Q. Now my website scope has changed from local to global and general therapy to "bipolar", but the naming of the images still confuse google and most visitors on my site originate from Spain even though my content is English and audience is global.
A. If you want to shift Globally then remove the Country specific keywords. For Example : change Car Rentals Spain to just Car Rentals it will make it global. Optimize content and do Off page accordingly. List your business locally and Globally.

Q. I hear that if u stuff ur image names with keywords google will penalise u, is this true?
A. Yes you heard it right. Google will penalise your website if you stuff them. Whether its in Images or in Content or Metas.

You can change them from your admin panel directly by getting on to the pages and changing from there or you can download pages where the images are placed and make changes from coding itself where tag <alt txt = "your image alt text"> is written. Download files from FTP through Filezilla and make changes. To know on which page your website is Right Click on image and select Inspect element.

Hey,
This is true, alt text are very much useful for on page.
In your are case you don't need to change image name, because if you do this your ranking with drop for some days. Instead of that you just change Alt text of images & keep that image name as it is.

basically , alt text in image is used for describing what image is all about , if in case your picture is not loaded on page for some reason then user can get idea of image by reading alt text. and yes for indexing google use alt text so it's important what you write in alt text . also overall key words density to page should be 5%.
review your data for your problem.revise keywords.

In my opinion alt tag essential for seo website images.
It will replace alt tags for your images when the image is lost.
My website daily traffic from image search quite a lot.
Therefore the image seo is necessary.

One of the major reasons to use the alt text is because it provides a description in place of the image for those who use screen readers due to certain disabilities or visual impairment. They might not be able to see the image or recognize it but the alt text will give a description of it through the screen reader.
