It depends on many things... such as where you get traffic from, what are you selling, what's your demographics. For me the simpler the site is - works better. But that's my audience and my niche, yours can be completely opposite... share some more info and you'll get better answer.

"Website design for conversion". Google that and you should be able to find some information regarding conversion and design. Instead of fishing for thoughts from less credible people you are better off doing some searching around.
