HomePage Redirection effects SEO?
« on: 05-16-2013, 06:51:33 »
Hi all,
We involve in website redesigning in which we changed the hompage domain from www.domainname.com to www.domainname.com/HomePage in Dotnet . We have few backlinks for www.domainname.com. I get confused whether instead of having only domain name as home page , using /HomePage redirection really effects SEO and backlinks or we need to redesign as www.domainname.com

A divert chain happens when there is more than one divert between the underlying URL and the goal URL. At the point when a URL is diverted, it ought to have a solitary 301 divert set up.

A 301 divert is also known a long lasting divert. You can easily redirect traffic to your new site using 301 divert without any impact on positions.

when installing a CMS like WP or Joomla the files are placed in a domainname/folder
To make then the site work you redirect from the /folder to the domainname. Is that affectng SEO ?

Example: a website exampe.com has a CMS WP template on example.com/foldername. To publish you will have to either redirect from the server with "redirect" or make an index.php to redirect etc... will this affect SEO in a bad way?

In this case, you have to choose only one version either www or non www version. But you are being scared of losing backlinks we can do cannonical tag code in your both pages, then Google will consider your domain as single domain and all the backlinks will be saved.

It won't effect if you use a 301 redirection. 301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".
