How is this site ranking so well, poor seo

Hi,

I have a website in niche market, video production, and one of my competitors has been dominating the serps for over 2 years now. I ran a test on seo centro and their seo is poor, site slow, no social media whatsoever and the site is not mobile friendly. I did some digging and found that their sister company, a web design/seo company has been creating subdomains with landing pages linking directly to the video website. Is that all it takes to dominate the ranks?

I dont want to put their info out there, but if you use google canada and search for edmonton videographer you will find them at the top of the organic ranks. Any insight would be appreciated.

Of course if you google their brand name they will show up first.

Strange thing is they dont show up for words like video production in Canada, videography Canada, wedding videos in Canada ect. Those are the keywords they should be ranking for.

I wont worry about them. Below are some examples of competion who you should be worried about and whos SEO you should be analyzing.
