Hi There,

As we are expanding internationally we are in the position to make decisions on international domain structure and their seo efforts.
We are having a good organic visibility in Google organic in India. We are getting almost 30K visitors/ month.

As we are expanding globally we have following decision to make.

For illustrative purpose let's use example.com

Right now we have an example.com which is getting 30k organic visitors from google.in and 2k from google.com
We are entering into the United States of America; we would like to get same organic reach as we got in India. But the question is to keep the original domain example.com or create a new domain for United States like: example.us
If we are to keep example.com instead of example.us, we might want to use example.com/en-us/   directory for usa optimisation.  But this makes analytics mess and link building is tedious too.

But as I researched and experienced, I don't think it's possible to rank in the local us search google.com with the same example.com with the directory en-us even though domain authority is retained.

Though having same domain with directory retains the domain authority, I guess domain authority becomes irrelevant when it comes to local country level search.

For illustrative example: we are ranked 1 for "good apple supplier" in Indian google.co.in which we have an authority. But we really not in the first 20 positions for same keywords in USA's google.com. So that means our ranking/domain authority/ or whatever technical stuff is not going to be same for United States Google.com. So this brings example.com authority in Usa's Google.com to null.

So it really doesn't matter if we are using example.com or example.us because for both domain authority is zero in case of usa's google.com

But If we prefer example.us over the example.com, we can host locally in united states server,  .Us CCTLD is more appealing to us search engine and people ( more local signal) , Can set targeting to usa in Google web master tools, seamless analytics compared to having separate domain tracking for each country rather one.

So I'm convinced with using example.us for USA targeting but I would like to some opinions from you guys. Please correct me if I'm wrong.  I'm open to any suggestions.

Suggestions highly appreciated!

Well, .com is not specific to US. It is international that contains for all regions. If you want to target then you have to go for .us. You are 100% correct. Go for it.
