Is 301 redirecting to the same page bad for SEO?
« on: 04-10-2018, 13:53:06 »
Video Description: newbielink:https://youtu.be/9A-36eq-ahc [nonactive]

Hello,

I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

I have this page http://carleaseoffers-clo.com/bmw-car-lease/ and I'm making 301 redirect to this page http://carleaseoffers-clo.com/bmw-car-lease/?make[]=bmw#showresult

So it’s exactly the same page but with query function.

From my understanding, you can't make web page URL with query function built in. So the only solution I could think of was the 301 redirect. I would appreciate if there's any other solution to to this particular problem.

Is there going to be any rank issues or SEO penalties for doing this?

If so,what and how much?

Is there going to be an issue with Adsense?

Or monetizing this page?

Anything else I should keep in mind?

I’ve read a lot of articles about this subject but all of them talk about redirecting to another page. Just want to make sure I have a firm understanding and know what to expect.

Thank again,

You have a canonical tag set to which redirects to another location (with your query string). Google will try to index your canonical URL.. which is a 301 redirect (not ideal). Instead, I’d generate the query string via javascript when the page loads. OR, make your canonical URL the one that you redirect to. This would only affect SEO, not adsense/monetization/etc.

301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" is interpreted as "moved permanently".

The HTTP 301 error flashes when web server thinks the URL is permanently been redirected to another URL and suggesting the visitor to try out the other URL.

I won't understand why you doing this great work. If you have two different url in a website then you can do 301 redirection, else doing this I think no effect will comes.

DO NOT DO THIS

1) never change your url - it will break ranking, perhaps permanently

2) NEVER use a url parameter as your canonical URL - it has been said by Google to be problematic

3) get a real programmer who knows how to do this without changing the url - look on upwork, what you want to do is not that hard

As 301 is a permanent redirect, so i personally don't think it is bad for SEO, so can you share with us your experience, how did it work, have you redirected your link with a 301 redirect and are your positions intact, or you have faced any loss in search engine positions.
