Hello everyone!

Here is another tricky question i have (I am afraid that my mind, starts playing a lot of tricks on me).

We all agree, how important is to acquire a strong domain name, both in common sense and seo terms, too.

Let's say that the primary keyword that you are planning to focus on, is taken, as well as almost all of its "combinations".

What can you do next, and how.

So, this is what I am thinking of.

Imagine that you have a long tail keyword that comprises of 3 elements. So your keyword (in strict order - cannot change order), looks something like:

Keyword (element1 element2 element3)

Example: Express diet programs (element1= Express, element2= diet, element3= programs).

Now, let us say that you already have a webpage that looks like: www.brandname.com, that ranks bottom-low in SERPs.

The big question is:

if you build a new domain name without throwing away the existing one, embedding your primary keyword and making a plan of forever redirecting from the already existing domain name, to the new one, what would the best syntax be, for the new domain name?

1. www.keyword-brandname.com -> www.element1element2element3-brandname.com
2. www.element1-element2-element3-brandname.com
3. www.element1element2element3.brandname.com
4. www.element1-element2-element3.brandname.com

This way, you get to keep your brand name and build the foundations of a well optimized webpage.

Finally, in SEO terms, does that seem like a good move, or not?

And what should you do best, not to throw away all the work that has been done this far, with the existing domain name?

Instead, should you make a subdomain your homepage's url, that could look like (syntax issue included):

homepage:

1. www.brandname.com/element1element2element3
2. www.brandname.com/element1-element2-element3

Well, i think the latter, is just like the 301 redirect issue, that worths nothing, in SEO terms, except if there is something else that can be done, concerning the use of a subdomain as main homepage, where you can place your primary key in.

Well, i am really looking forward for your insights.

Thank you all in advance.

many letters :)

As you know Google penalizes websites with a too long domain with a number of keywords inside.
So really good idea is to have domain like
www.brandname.com
and to use keywords shortly in URL structure
www.brandname.com/express-diet-1/ with real program name instead of express-diet-1

All theese
1. www.keyword-brandname.com -> www.element1element2element3-brandname.com
2. www.element1-element2-element3-brandname.com
3. www.element1element2element3.brandname.com
4. www.element1-element2-element3.brandname.com

are not preferred

Hope I help

It was helpful, indeed.

For sure, I wasn't concentrating on putting too many keywords or characters in the domain name.

But you cannot disagree that it would help you build fast on the improvement of your page's ranking.

Imagine having a brandname like "erato" and are concentrating on the keyword "Beauty centers".

Your domain name is www.erato.com (do not know if it exists - this is a fictional scenario :D), that you have been using for 3 years now, that is bottom low in SERPs, with a low traffic too.

So, why not keep that one as your primary and add a second one (with a permanent redirect) that goes like: www.beautycenters-erato.com.

This way, you concentrate fast on your primary keyword (let us not talk about conversion rate, because "beauty centers" is a very general and location strict term) and move up in the rankings, fast...

Finally, the total sum of the characters used in your domain name is by far, less than 70 and still easy for the eye to catch and the mind to remember!

Don't forget about deeper pages. Imagine how long will be the 3d level.
Anyway just erato.com makes you working with brandname. Its a good thing when user associates brand with appropriate niche.
Don't you ever thought that big companies always use just a brandname in a domain?
Make a good snippet - and the advantage of domain name will be surpassed

True enough!

As long as all the actions of the company work towards that direction.

Building a strong brand name of utmost importance.

But, to get there, you need a lot of effort and the ability to:

1. Retain your already existing customers (keeping them Satisfied -> Loyal -> Delighted, something that is 100% related to the product that you sell or service the you provide and the mixture of all in-company and out-of-company strategies)
2. Acquire new ones (Through marketing strategies, where seo is a "mere" -sarcastically talking- tool for this).

I do understand that such subjects, will always be open to debate and every time, you have to put together, the pros and cons of every action and then decide. Because, everything in life, comes with a cost.

Anyway, thank you one more time, both for your interest and your trouble.
