Title: Keywords in Page Titles?
Post by: Reynolds Riser on 07-18-2013, 00:53:56
The page title is another special place because the contents of the <title> tag usually gets displayed in most search engines, (including Google). While it is not mandatory per the HTML specification to write something in the <title> tag (i.e. you can leave it empty and the title bar of the browser will read “Untitled Document” or similar), for SEO purposes you may not want to leave the <title> tag empty; instead, you'd better write the the page title in it.

Page title is the most important element of the onpage because it will help to increase search engine visibility for the webpage/website. By including most prominent keyword of the webpage in page title helps to increase click through rate, traffic and ranking of that particular keyword for that website/webpage in search engine. Title tags helps search engine to determine the specific webpage as per user's search query very easily.

The title is the most important single summary of what a page is all about and therefore carries the highest on page weighting in the Google algorithm. In brief, if you’re targeting a specific search phrase, you should certainly make your title tag as close to that phrase as possible.

The page title is contained within the HTML <title> tag and is almost always used as the clickable headline for listings on search engine result pages. Since the title tag is used by all of the major search engines, it is important to title your pages with keywords that will help drive traffic to that page.

If you don't write anything on title tag, Search engines will display it automatically. It may be initial sentence or other & this system goes on changing with the type of search engines. To fix this issue we need to write title tag, which displays our title as it is in most of the search engines.

Title tags—technically called title elements—define the title of a document. Title tags are often used on search engine results pages (SERPs) to display preview snippets for a given page, and are important both for SEO and social sharing.

The title element of a web page is meant to be an accurate and concise description of a page's content. This element is critical to both user experience and search engine optimization. It creates value in three specific areas: relevancy, browsing, and in the search engine results pages.

Code Sample
<head>
<title>Example Title</title>
</head>
Optimal Format
Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | Brand Name

Optimal Length for Search Engines
Google typically displays the first 50-60 characters of a title tag, or as many characters as will fit into a 512-pixel display. If you keep your titles under 55 characters, you can expect at least 95% of your titles to display properly. Keep in mind that search engines may choose to display a different title than what you provide in your HTML. Titles in search results may be rewritten to match your brand, the user query, or other considerations.
