Hey SEO gurus!

It would be a little lengthy post, so here is a TL;DR version:

Long story short: recently made a switch from doing SEO for 8+ years in one very specific industry (Home improvement) and for English websites to the board and card game niche (multilanguage website). Looking for some ideas, tips, trends.

And here is the full version- after 8+ years of doing SEO for one specific niche (Home improvement) and for English only websites, I made a serious(?!) turn in my career recently. I took a job for a company producing online card and board games. Games are in HTML5 and they can be played both on the website or downloaded from the App Store. At the moment the main traffic (~60%) comes from Ios and Android. 10-20% from Facebook and 20-30% from Organic search. So, my goal obviously would be to increase organic performance.

Also, the main website offering card (like Hears, Rummy, Euchre, Crazy Eights, Chinchon, 66, and more) and board games (ex. Dominoes, Backgammon, Ludo, etc.) have ~10 different languages.

There are people who speak some of the main languages (but they are not SEOs), so they would be able to help with content creation (game rules pages + blog posts) and link building.

So, I'm interested if any of you made similar turns in their careers. Was it tough for you to switch from one niche and type of website to another? How long it took you to understand the main principles and so on. Anything specific that can be of help?

On the other hand, if anybody has some experience in the online gaming industry, any tips would be useful. I am currently working on a short and long-term SEO strategy. I plan to split it into segments:

- Must do (next 2-3 weeks);

- Should do (next 1-2 months);

- Could do (~6 months+).

Of course, IMO some general SEO stuff is a must no matter the industry. I mean, I plan to start (actually already started) with a thorough onsite analysis of the website (404 pages, broken links, anchors, keyword usage, missing/ too long titles & descriptions especially on key pages, page speed issues, images, and many more).

At the same time, I like to spend some time working on the blog and content marketing as a whole. To check out popular topics (for example I've already found "card games for 2/3 players" is smth people search for and has decent volume) and add them to the content calendar. Also, improve existing posts if there is potential in them.

Linkbuilding of course. I started preparing a list with the main competitors, subscribed to Ahrefs Alerts to get an idea of what type of links they get, etc. From there some good ideas might come not only for links but for new content.

I guess it would be a good idea to see whether people who play such kind of games spend their time online to learn their habits, what they need etc. For example, gaming forums and Reddit?

Also, I created a few Ahrefs & Google alerts for niche related queries to get to know the industry better (ex. "card games online", "board games online", "play card games online" etc.)

I am 100% missing smth, but it's been just a couple of weeks. So, yeah any help and advice would be much appreciated. Even though I'm not new to SEO, I'm new to the industry and I'm sure there are some specifics that could make the transition easier. The good thing is that I'm a keen chess & pоker player who has a very decent experience in playing both semi-professionally, so that could definitely help.

One of the main challenges I see at this point is to optimize for different languages (used to do SEO only for English-only websites).

Well, I guess that's it for now.

And if someone needs help for the Home Improvement industry, I would be glad to help with resources, ideas, and so on.

Thanks : )
