Hi,

I have a little bit confused about canonical URL...

Actually, I have given both URLs example below, first one is redirecting on the second URL, the previous URL was the first one and now they are redirecting on the second but they updated the first URL in the canonical tag.

http://ab.example.com/us/en/product-name  (This URL updated in the canonical tag and once user will hit on this link in the browser then it is redirecting on the second URL... )

                     To

http://ab.example.com/us/12051/en/product-name

I suggested them we need to put this URL "http://ab.example.com/us/12051/en/product-name" in the canonical tag and this should be updated in the canonical tag not first one but they are saying no first one would be on the canonical tag.

Can you please let me know which URL should be in the canonical tag. Which is opening in the browser?

Thanks

In your scenario as much i understand, if you have changed the permalink of your website, then you will need to use a 301 redirect for all the pages you have changed urls, otherwise you can lose search engine rankings, as i can see in your example you are changing your url, so please use a 301 redirect from old url to new url, and in the page of new url the colonical url should be 2nd one, which is the latest and correct url in your opinion.
