The most important will be to promote your blog post on social networking websites. But in addition to this, you must:

- Submit your blog to popular blog directories
- Push it across social bookmarking websites
- Promote it on niche related forums and communities
- Comment on niche related blogs
- Guest post on niche related, authority blogs
- Try to make your blog interactive (encourage people to comment on your blog and allow guest posting)
- You can integrate videos on your blog and promote those videos on different video distribution sites

There isn't one specific SEO activity that is the most important in my opinion. There are a number of things that you need to do to begin your SEO work for a new blog. Start with some on-page SEO, if it's based on Wordpress, that should make things easier by installing a couple of SEO plugins for example All In One SEO.

Secondly, you need to make sure you have great content, something that sets your blog apart from other blogs in your niche. Think of a topic, write something, read over it a few times to make sure it's something that reader will actually want to read. You can outsource this part if you feel the need to.
