I think only advertiser see the rank. Advertisers look for high traffic sites and Alexa rank helps them estimate it. Nobody else care about the Alexa rank.

Basicaly, Alexa counts how many visitor surfing your site. In additional, it's also take care of visitors duration on the web, keywords they searching, bounce rate and some other ... All of them make your alexa rank.

Alexa is just the rank provider depends upon your visitors and page views count. But Google Page rank completely different from it.
It's depending upon how much Back links your site have and the quality of the Back link will decide the Page rank

Alexa tracks number of visitors and their activity on the site. It also keeps stats of visitors by geography, sеx, age etc. Don't think it has any effect of SERPs

Follow me alexa website ranking is only symbolic reference only.
Because it ranks websites based on the number of computers that have installed the Alexa toolbar to access the website.
But as I know the number of computers installed alexa toolbar occupies no more.

They count your website/blogs hits which passed through their system. That means when to your visitor comes and how many time they spend on your blog/website. One other factor alexa rank also count visitors who have installed alexa toolbar to browser on their system. So alexa ranks website/blogs by amount of hits passed with this toolbar installed by many of blogger/website owner.
