I've been using a free blogger account for sometime. I've got a standard .blogspot.com domain and i actually get real traffic thanks to bloggers traffic and visibility on the search engines.

People keep telling me that i should move to wordpress because it's better and that I should move to a self hosted account rather than keeping the .blogspot.com domain etc.

Is it worth me doing this ? and how would I go about doing the switch ?  Please help!

Moving from a free Blogger account to a self-hosted WordPress site can have several advantages. With WordPress, you'll have more control over your website design, functionality, and overall customization options. Additionally, WordPress offers a vast range of plugins and themes to enhance your site's performance and aesthetics.

Regarding the migration process, it may seem daunting at first, but there are steps you can take to make it smoother. Here's a general outline of what you need to do:

1. Obtain a domain: Purchase a custom domain name for your new WordPress site. This will give your website a professional look and help with branding.

2. Set up hosting: Find a reliable and affordable hosting provider that supports WordPress. Many popular choices include Bluehost, SiteGround, or DreamHost.

3. Install WordPress: Most hosting providers offer a simple one-click installation process for WordPress. This will set up the necessary files and database for your site.

4. Export Blogger content: In your Blogger dashboard, navigate to the "Settings" section and select "Other." There, you'll find an option to export your blog. Save the exported file to your computer.

5. Import content to WordPress: In your WordPress dashboard, go to "Tools" and click on "Import." From the available options, select "Blogger" and follow the instructions to upload the exported Blogger file.

6. Redirect Blogger visitors: To ensure a smooth transition, set up redirects from your old Blogger URLs to their new counterparts on your WordPress site. This will help maintain your search engine rankings and ensure that visitors can still find your content.

7. Design and customize: Once your content is migrated, you can start designing your website using WordPress themes and plugins. Customize it to suit your preferences and needs.

additional considerations when deciding whether to move from Blogger to WordPress:

1. Customization: While Blogger has some customization options, WordPress provides a much wider range of themes, plugins, and tools to personalize your website. This can help you create a unique and professional online presence.

2. Ownership and Control: With a self-hosted WordPress site, you have complete ownership and control over your content and website. You're not limited by the terms and conditions set by Blogger or any other platform.

3. Scalability: WordPress is highly scalable and can accommodate websites of any size, from small personal blogs to large e-commerce sites. If you plan on growing your online presence in the future, WordPress offers more flexibility and resources to support your expansion.

4. Monetization options: WordPress offers more opportunities for monetization through advertising, sponsored content, affiliate marketing, and e-commerce integrations. This can be beneficial if you're looking to generate income from your website.

5. SEO and Analytics: WordPress provides robust SEO tools and plugins that can help improve your website's visibility in search engine results. It also integrates well with popular analytics tools, allowing you to track traffic, user behavior, and other valuable metrics.

Ultimately, the decision to move from Blogger to WordPress depends on your specific needs, goals, and level of comfort with managing a self-hosted website. Take the time to evaluate these factors and consider consulting with web professionals or experienced WordPress users for further guidance.

Wordpress blogs usually get more organic traffic when compared to the blogger blogs. They also are much professional. I think you shouldn't be using a sub domain but hav your own domain, it'll give you better credibility, until the people just won't take you seriously.

If you're a an experienced blogger then I would say make the switch. But if you don't like to get too technical then it's better to stay with blogger as it much easy to use.
