Title: Does web traffic effect rankings?
Post by: manvbf on 10-13-2011, 02:08:24
If i type into google a search term and find my website, will clicking on it a bunch of times from different computers cause my website to get higher rankings?

Basically, i'm increasing traffic through a search term directly to my site.

Does google measure this?

Thanks.

Google has tons of ways to know if the traffic is legitimate or there is a click fraud going on. Be careful or else you will lose your rankings.

I do agree with all above posts, certainly Google has tools to analyze traffic. If once a Google catch you it will ban your site definitely.

Don't use such unethical tricks to increase the page rank. Always follow the Google algorithm and optimize your website as per its guidelines. You will get good page rank as per this but still you will do unethical you will get banned from Google.

Google only measures impressions, and also the click through their own search engine, which the traffic-ability would be slanted per se, since it is only coming from one source.

I actually agree if the traffic you gathered are natural or not illegal because google have an analyzer all the traffic gathered. Content also is a big factor to increase the rank in any search engine. It should be unique and have the quality.

Yes it can effect the ranking on google because the higher the traffic the better the quality of the website. Many people search for quality site and if they find your site it means your site are credible.

Hi,
Yes, web traffic effect you SERP ranking. Actually, traffic shows the popularity of the website in the crawlers eyes, therefore it is giving priority to the popular sites. The best example is Facebook, the more is the traffic the highest is the ranking (also PR, and I am sure it is all done without having any SEO, only on the basis of traffic.).

Traffic or clicking on your listing will not effect ranking. BUT ranking will effect your traffic.

You may ask your friends, girlfriend (or boyfriend) and parents to visit your website and spend a few minutes by viewing it. You can also visit your website from different computers. The important note – you should do it as naturally as possible, like an ordinary visitor would do.

Simply said:

Yes, traffic most certainly does effect your page rank.

It is important to have traffic in order to increase your rankings

Once visitors are on your site, it is also important for them to engage with it, this too helps with site rankings.  its much better for a visitor to land on your site and use it than to "bounce" right off.

Best of luck!

hi friend,

you should not click by yourself bunch of times in your website. it can not boost your rank site.
You can use social media to drive traffic to your website.

I recently read the book called "In the Plex" which describes the creation of Google.  One of the things I found fascinating was how they used user data.  So, if your site was clicked on multiple times on a Google search AND if users stayed on the site then Google ranks it better.  They called it a "short click" vs a "long click".

With that being said, my guess is that the exposure on Dragon's Den brought with it a bunch of links.  There are people who write blogs that only talk about that show.  I'm guessing the influx of links caused the increased ranking and this is great news because when the traffic buzz dies down, the links will still be there!

Although the total amount of traffic isn't going to influence your search rankings, traffic does play a significant role in where your website appears in search results. It goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that the more popular your site is, the bette
