I have been tasked with creating an archive sub-domain site for an organization that will have content in the archive that is actually live on the organization's main site at the same time.

Because the organization wants the archive open to the public search engines will be able to index its pages. How do I inform the search engine that the content on the archived page should be accredited to the main site?

Yuga

Rel="canonical" This tells search engines that a given page should be treated as though it were a copy of a specified URL, and all of the links, content metrics, and "ranking power" that search engines apply to this page should actually be credited to the specified URL.

You can use the canonical tag to indicate the preferred version of the content. On the archived pages, set the canonical tag to point to the corresponding live page on the main site. This signals to search engines that the live page is the original source, and they should credit it accordingly. Additionally, ensure both the live and archived pages have clear references and links to each other for transparency and better indexing.
