Hello Webmasters,
I have created a forum on pharmacy related discussions. This forum is running since two years now. It is indexed and crawled by Google several times. But the problem is that it is not providing a single backlink to the other linked websites in this forum. Users have profile homepages and signatures too. But my forum is not giving any backlink to them. This forum has been created with phpbb. Is there anything missing like any setting in ACP?
This very problem is causing my forum users leaving my forum. Hopefully I will get help from my co webmasters. Thanks in advance for your valuable responses.

Hi,
For creating the forums you are using a php it is good but to get the back links. After finishing installation of the php go to the CHMOD settings of config.php and change them to 644.I think this will help you to get back links in the forum.

I don't think so..In forum you can use signature link which can help to generate back link and traffic.but  forum, it should be do follow...

Check the setting of your forum first because if it provides the link with no follow tag then Google will not follow the link and wont considered it as a backlink.

Firstly, check the forum's settings to see if there are any options related to adding backlinks. Look for settings that control user profiles, signatures, and website linking permissions. Ensure that these settings are enabled and allow users to add their own backlinks.

If you can't find any relevant settings in the admin control panel (ACP), consider reaching out to the phpbb community or forums dedicated to the platform. They may be able to provide more specific guidance on configuring backlinks within the forum.

Additionally, you could explore alternative forum software that better meets your needs or consider customizing the existing phpbb setup. It might be worth consulting with a web developer or expert in phpbb to help you address this issue.

suggestions to help address the issue of backlinks in your forum:

1. Analyze the HTML output: Inspect the HTML code of the forum pages and search for any indications that links are being automatically stripped or modified. Look for any filters or rules that might be removing or altering the URLs.

2. Review user permissions: Verify that regular users have the necessary permissions to include links in their profiles, signatures, or posts. Check if there are any restrictions or moderation settings in place that might be preventing the inclusion of backlinks.

3. SEO extensions or plugins: Explore the possibility of using SEO-focused extensions or plugins for phpbb. These tools often offer additional customization options, including controlling how backlinks are handled. They may provide settings to enable or configure backlinks within user profiles, signatures, or posts.

4. Utilize a sitemap: Create and submit a sitemap of your forum's pages to search engines, like Google. This can help search engine crawlers discover and index the content and links within your forum. There are several online tools and plugins available that can assist with generating and managing sitemaps.

5. Consider professional assistance: If you've exhausted all options and still haven't resolved the issue, it might be worthwhile to consult a professional web developer with experience in phpbb or SEO. They can help identify any potential configuration issues or develop custom solutions to incorporate backlinks in your forum.

additional suggestions to help address the issue with backlinks in your forum:

1. Check for nofollow attribute: Ensure that the forum software or any plugins you are using do not automatically add the rel="nofollow" attribute to outbound links. This attribute tells search engines not to follow those links, which could be affecting the visibility of the linked websites.

2. Customize user permissions: Review the forum's user permission settings to verify that users have the necessary privileges to include backlinks. Check if there are any restrictions or limitations that might be preventing the inclusion of links in their profiles, signatures, or posts.

3. Enable external links: In the admin control panel (ACP), check if there are any specific settings related to external links. Some forum software has options to limit or disable external linking for security purposes. Ensure that this feature is enabled to allow users to link to other websites.

4. Moderate carefully: If you have a moderation system in place, ensure that it is not overly strict in filtering out backlinks. You want to strike a balance between preventing spam and allowing legitimate links to be shared. Adjust the moderation settings accordingly, if needed.

5. Seek assistance from the forum community: Reach out to the phpbb community forums or online groups dedicated to the platform. Other experienced users or developers may have encountered a similar issue and might be able to provide guidance or a solution.

If your forum creates anything like this "<a href="...">blah</a>, then a backlink was created.

Are you saying that the links created are nofollow?

Or they're not showing up in Majestic, for example?

Check profile setting & also read their guidelines. After how much posts they are providing signature.
Then submit query to webmaster. They will guide you very well than others.

Check all the HTML links properly & do not use "nofollow" attribute anywhere. Also check profile setting whether it is allowing do-follow links or not.
