There has been a lot of talk about Google over the past few months, as they brought out another new update named "Google Penguin". I wonder if your website has been penalized or your rankings even rank high.

Google Penguin is a code name for a Google algorithm update that was first announced on April 24, 2012. The update is aimed at falling search engine rankings of websites that break Google's Webmaster Guidelines by using black-hat SEO techniques.

I've heard that a new Penguin update will be rolling out very soon. It will be interesting to see what the changes in SERP will be after unveiling the Hummingbird update and then the anti spam update

Google Penguin usually targeted websites with thin contents, but yet gathering too many links aggressively from suspicious web sources. In fact, many of the top-ranking websites have been hit by the update, but many others with good contents and links have experienced a boost in ranks.

Google Penguin has nothing to do with content, it just hits sites with high amount of low quality or spammy links

Penguin 2.1 Updates :

Forum bio spam: Biographies of forum users containing exact match anchor text links.

"Do follow" blogs: Blogs that don't add nofollow to the links posted. Then they must face the problem of Penguin.

Spam directories: If you've used spam directories in the past, and still have links on there then you are hit by penguin.

Blog comment signature spam: Google seems to be targeting these links even when they're not followed
