Both updates are alive and kicking. They are need to control spam and offer better search results to users.

Google's Panda and Penguin are two different algorithm updates that were launched to improve the quality of search results.

Google Panda was first rolled out in 2011 and its primary focus is on assessing the quality of content on websites. It targets sites with low-quality or thin content, duplicate content, or excessive ads, among other factors. The goal of Panda is to ensure that high-quality content is rewarded with better rankings in search results.

On the other hand, Google Penguin was first introduced in 2012 to primarily target websites that engage in manipulative link building practices. It aims to penalize sites that have unnatural or spammy backlink profiles. Penguin looks at factors such as the quality and relevance of incoming links to determine if a website is trying to manipulate search rankings by participating in link schemes.

While both Panda and Penguin updates aim to improve search quality, they focus on different aspects. Panda focuses on the quality of the content on a website, while Penguin focuses on the quality of backlinks pointing to a site. Both updates can have a significant impact on a website's rankings in search results and require webmasters to adhere to Google's guidelines to avoid penalties.

To give you a bit more detail, Google Panda works by assigning a "quality score" to individual webpages and websites. This score is based on various factors such as the relevance, originality, and usefulness of the content, as well as the overall user experience. Websites with higher quality scores are more likely to rank higher in search results, while those with lower scores may see a drop in rankings.

Google Penguin, on the other hand, focuses on evaluating the backlink profiles of websites. It looks for unnatural or manipulative link building practices, such as buying links or participating in link exchange networks. Websites that are found to have such spammy backlinks may receive penalties, causing their rankings to drop.

Both updates were designed to combat spam and low-quality content in search results. They aim to provide users with more relevant and trustworthy information when they conduct searches. The updates were rolled out separately, though they both contribute to Google's overall search algorithm.

It's worth noting that both Panda and Penguin are now part of Google's core algorithm, which means that they are continuously running and updating in real-time. This allows Google to make more rapid adjustments and improvements to search results based on user feedback and changing web trends.

points about Google Panda and Penguin:

1. Panda's focus on content: As mentioned earlier, Google Panda primarily targets the quality of content on websites. It aims to favor websites with original, relevant, and valuable content while penalizing those with low-quality or duplicate content. It also looks at factors such as user engagement metrics (like bounce rate and time spent on site) to gauge the overall user experience.

2. Penguin's focus on backlinks: In contrast, Google Penguin mainly focuses on evaluating the backlink profiles of websites. It aims to identify and penalize websites that engage in manipulative or spammy link building practices, which violate Google's guidelines. Penguin looks at factors like the relevance, authority, and naturalness of incoming links to determine the quality of a website's backlink profile.

3. Impact on search rankings: Both Panda and Penguin can have significant impacts on the search rankings of websites. If a website is affected by these updates, it may experience drops in rankings, leading to a decrease in organic traffic. Conversely, websites that adhere to high-quality content and ethical link building practices can benefit from improved rankings and visibility in search results.

4. Algorithm updates and refreshes: Over the years, Google has released multiple updates and refreshes for both Panda and Penguin. These updates aim to refine the algorithms further and address any loopholes or shortcomings. It's essential for website owners and SEO professionals to stay updated with these changes and ensure their sites comply with the latest guidelines.

5. Recovery from penalties: If a website is affected by Panda or Penguin penalties, it is possible to recover and regain lost rankings. This typically involves identifying and addressing the issues that caused the penalty, such as improving content quality or disavowing toxic backlinks. Once the necessary corrective actions are taken, website owners can submit reconsideration requests to Google to have the penalties lifted.

few more details about Google Panda and Penguin:

1. Frequency of updates: Both Panda and Penguin have undergone multiple updates since their initial launch. Updates to Panda are usually rolled out periodically (e.g., every few months) and may include tweaks to the algorithm or changes in the way it evaluates content quality. Penguin, on the other hand, has transitioned to a real-time update since 2016, meaning that its algorithm is continuously running and assessing websites' backlink profiles.

2. Recovery from penalties: If a website is penalized by Panda or Penguin, recovery requires addressing the specific issues that caused the penalty. For Panda, this involves improving the overall quality and relevance of content on the website. For Penguin, it entails removing or disavowing low-quality or spammy backlinks. Once the necessary improvements are made, webmasters can submit a reconsideration request to Google. It's important to note that recovery from penalties can take time, and regaining lost rankings may not happen immediately.

3. Impact on search traffic: Websites impacted by Panda or Penguin penalties can experience significant drops in organic search traffic. The severity of the impact depends on the extent and severity of the violations. However, once the penalties are lifted or the issues are resolved, websites can see a recovery in search traffic and rankings.

4. Complements to other ranking factors: Panda and Penguin work alongside other ranking factors in Google's search algorithm. While they focus on content quality and backlink profiles, respectively, there are numerous other factors that influence search rankings, such as site speed, mobile-friendliness, relevance, and user experience.

5. Ongoing vigilance: Website owners and SEO professionals should regularly monitor their website for both content quality and backlink profile. It's essential to ensure that the content remains valuable, original, and relevant to users while maintaining a healthy and natural backlink profile. Regular audits and optimization efforts can help prevent penalties and keep the website in compliance with Google's guidelines.

Panda:

Panda updates are designed to target pages that aren't necessarily spam but aren't great quality. This was the first ever penalty that went after "thin content," and the sites that were hit hardest by the first Panda update were content farms (hence why it was originally called the Farmer update), where users could publish dozens of low-quality, keyword stuffed articles that offered little to no real value for the reader. Many publishers would submit the same article to a bunch of these content farms just to get extra links.

Panda is a site wide penalty, which means that if "enough" (no specific number) pages of your site were flagged for having thin content, your entire site could be penalized. Panda was also intended to stop scrappers (sites that would republish other company's content) from outranking the original author's content.

The Google Penguin

According to the Google blog, Penguin is an "important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google's existing quality guidelines." Google mentions that typical black hat SEO tactics like keyword stuffing (long considered webspam) would get a site in trouble, but less obvious tactics (link incorporating irrelevant outgoing links into a page of content) would also cause Penguin to flag your site. Says Google,

Sites affected by this change might not be easily recognizable as spamming without deep analysis or expertise, but the common thread is that these sites are doing much more than white hat SEO; we believe they are engaging in webspam tactics to manipulate search engine rankings.

Site owners should be sure to check their Google Webmaster accounts for any messages from Google warning about your past spam activity and a potential penalty. Google says that Penguin has impacted about 3.1% of queries (compared to Panda 1.0's 12%). If you saw major traffic losses between April 24th and April 25th, chances are Penguin is the culprit, even though Panda 3.5 came out around the same time.

Hi everyone,
Google Penguin algorithm mainly concentrates on the webspam. The websites which do not follow the quality guidelines of Google are penalized and demoted in the search engine rankings. Black hat techniques like keyword stuffing are looked down upon by this algorithm.
Google Panda algorithm mainly targets websites with low quality content. Content farms were hit the hardest by this algorithm. Even sites with duplicate content from other sites were penalized by Google

Google Panda has removed all the links which stayed steady on the webpages since a ling time. Google Penguin update affects the low quality content. It affects the page rank a lot. I am working in the Higher Than Ltd. (http://"www.higherthan.co.uk") and we have a team of professional content writers so these algorithms can't affect our websites.

This is from an seo course that I have read:

***Panda***

- duplication of content internally and externally
- lazy spinning

Indications:

- sitewide rank drop
- fall in traffic
- PR 0 to PR N/A

***Penguin***

- improper anchor text usage

Indications:

page rank drops
rankings went lower but not gone
the homepage is mostly affected
changes tied to an algo update release

hope this helps!

Google Panda:

1)  Penalize websites of low quality and those with low quality content. It is first introduced in 24th February, 2011
2) Panda had over 24 updates till March 2013
3) Panda is basically an on-page problem, so the main changes need to be on the website
4)  It is possible that an entire site is affected through panda. Usually single pages of a website are not targeted in the algorithm

Google Penguin
1) Bring down websites that violate Google's Webmaster Guidelines and use  black-hat SEO techniques
2) Penguin had just three updates since its launch in April last year.
3)Check for the links to find if there are from the same domain name or IP address, so that links don't look like purchased.
4) Penguin generally affects one part of the website on a page and keyword level.

After many updates from years finally the search results are far better after launching of these two major updates named - Panda & Penguin.  Panda refined the content approach of the online portals and devalued the low quality content site from the searches. Penguin act directly for links created by any domain and mark the bad links as webspam.

Google Panda Update :-

This upgrade is intended to diminish rankings for low-quality destinations locales which are low-esteem include for clients, duplicate substance from different sites or destinations that are simply not exceptionally helpful. In the meantime, it will give better rankings to astounding locales destinations with unique substance and data, for example, research, in-profundity reports, mindful examination etc.

Google Penguin Update:-
The Google Penguin Update propelled on April 24. As per the Google blog, Penguin is an "imperative calculation change focused at webspam. The change will diminish rankings for destinations that we accept are disregarding Google's current quality rules." Google says that normal dark cap SEO strategies like pivotal word stuffing (since a long time ago considered webspam) would get a website in a bad position, however less evident strategies (connection joining immaterial cordial connections into a page of substance) would likewise cause Penguin to banner your webpage. Says Google.

Thus, the basic difference between Google Panda and Google Penguin is that Panda targets sites that are spam and Penguin deals with bad linking and overstuffing of keywords. In case of Panda the only way to survive Panda's changes is to update the website and do away with all the useless pages low on quality.

Yes, Google has launched several algorithms over the years to improve the quality and relevance of its search results. Two of the most well-known algorithms are Google Panda and Google Penguin. While both algorithms aim to improve search quality, they focus on different aspects of website content and backlinks.

Google Panda was first launched in 2011 and is designed to target low-quality or "thin" content. Panda evaluates the quality of website content by analyzing factors such as relevance, uniqueness, and user engagement. Sites with low-quality content may be penalized in search rankings, while sites with high-quality content may see an improvement.

Panda removes low-quality content from search results, Penguin removes spammy websites, and Hummingbird determines whether your content is appealing to readers. In the event that your site has too minimal substance that is unique and a lot of scanty and taken content you will be rebuffed by Panda. Be that as it may, Penguin just goes after individual pages. However, if your site contains an excessive amount of keyword spam, it could be penalized as a whole.
