It does not help in search engine optimization. It is only useful for browsers surfing your webpage to get their attention.

I don't think so, you don't have to do it since it won't create an effect at all.

I would not say it has massive impact, plus bolding keywords is a bit of an old school practice, but there is still some benefit I believe to using it, although does make content look unsightly if over used.

It's increasingly true that search engines value pages the same way humans would (and do). If you create a page that has spectacular information on its topic, you'll be rewarded for it in the search rankings. Part of having a great web page is that the content is easily consumable by readers. To this end, putting important words and phrases in bold or italics will make your pages easier to read.

I think it has very little effect but it doesn't impact that much how ever if you format your page well with bold italics and and also do proper formatting the text then your page looks good and it can put positive impact on user which can increase conversion rate.

Use <strong> tag after headings to highlight the keyword or phrase used in the <H1> or <H2>
Use <b> tag to emphasize text that relates to the topic but is not directly linked to the subject.
Try not to bold too many keywords in the same paragraph.

It does not have any impact, though bolding your keywords can result in getting more clicks, further resulting in getting your links indexed quickly.
