Search engine optimization (SEO) is actually divided into two primary areas, namely: on-page optimization and off-page optimization. Both are merely important to make a website rank well in search engines.
Anything that is uploaded into a website's domain is called on-page. In other words, it is the process of ensuring that your website is optimized and easily searchable in search engines. Otherwise, your chance of getting favorable results in the search engines is very slim. However, the on-page aspect of search engine optimization accounts for approximately 20 to 30 percent only of your page rank. The rest of the percentage is attributed to off-page SEO.
On-page SEO has three most important techniques, namely:
1. Create a unique and accurate page titles. It is important that each page that you create should bear a unique title, otherwise identical titles would be considered as "duplicates" by Google. The key here is to make your title speak of the content of the page. Refrain from making a title that is not related to the content. Likewise, do not stuff keywords in your title tags, and avoid ALL CAPS titles.
Moreover, if your title is more than 60 characters long, Google will only show a snippet in the search results.
2. Work with the "description" meta tag. When it comes to getting indexed by the search engines, "description" meta tag is the second most important on-page element. Meta descriptions accurately summarize the page's content. Refrain from using descriptions that goes like, "this is a webpage", nor from supplying too short description and keyword-stuffed description. Keep your meta description within the 160-character limit and unique for each page. Using the same meta description all throughout your website or for a large number of pages will compel Google to show only a page in the results, and send the rest into the supplementary result index.
3. Enhance the structure of your URLs. It is recommended that your URL (or Uniform Resource Locator) uses words instead of numbers, session IDs, and the like. By doing so, your page becomes friendlier to both users and the search engines. Avoid using URLs that are too long, having generic page names like "page1.html", and/or keyword-stuffed.
On the other hand, off-page search engine optimization is focused on doing things off the site to improve your website ranking on search engines. Also known as backlinking or link building, off-page SEO is more concerned about building relevant links that leads to your site. This type of SEO is a continuing process, even a never ending activity, which can produce visible result only after a few months. If you cease to do off-page optimization, there is a high risk that your competitor will outrank you in the search engines.
Nevertheless, in order to stay on the upper ranks of search engines, here are a few basic techniques that you can apply through off-page SEO:
1. Building quality links. It is never enough to accumulate as many backlinks as possible into your site. Rather, you should aim for relevant or quality backlinks. In order to keep track if your backlink is relevant, you may follow this guide:

What is the relevance of the other website or web page to yours?
How is the ranking of the website you link to?
What type of traffic do you expect to generate for your website?
Do the websites you link to have several backlinks, too? If they do, what kind of links do they have?

2. Article submission or content sharing. Another method of generating traffic into your website is to submit articles to Article Directory sites. It is one of the oldest and most popular linking methods known to the SEO industry.
3. Directory submission. Most widely and commonly used approach to build backlinks, directory submission generates more traffic flow towards your website and improves its search engine rankings. Considered as the best suitable and affordable option of SEO, directory submission provides significant opportunities to promote a business online. It is even considered as the most essential factor to consider in building marketing strategies for the business.
4. Social networking/bookmarking. Commenting on other people's blogs and participating in forum discussion are another methods of increasing traffic as well as generating backlinks into your website. Likewise, submitting your own articles to social bookmarking sites like Stumble Upon, Digg, Reddit, and the like is another form of building links.
5. Creating link wheels. This is another effective off-page SEO strategy where you create several small-scale one-way blog sites, and link each to the other, until all of which point to only one common source, which is your main website.

On-Page and Off-Page Optimization are two broad areas of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) that businesses use to increase their visibility and rankings on search engines. Here's a breakdown of each.

**On-Page SEO**:

On-Page SEO refers to the optimization strategies that you apply on your website, including your individual pages and posts. These strategies aim to improve your site's visibility and credibility in search engines. Elements include:

1. **Keyword Optimization**: Ensuring that your content includes relevant keywords that are used by your target audience in their searches. This includes using keywords within the title, subheadings, in your text naturally, in meta descriptions, and the alt-text for any images.

2. **Meta Tags**: These include the title tags and meta descriptions, which are visible on search engine result pages (SERPs) and provide a brief summary of what your web page is about.

3. **URL Structure**: The URL of your pages should be concise, understandable, and include your target keyword when appropriate.

4. **Internal Linking**: Linking related pages/posts on your website strengthens the connectivity of your site, makes it easier for users to navigate and helps to spread link authority throughout your site.

5. **Site Speed**: Increasing the loading speed of your website/ pages can have a positive impact on rankings.

6. **Mobile-friendliness**: With mobile devices often being the main way users access the internet, Google rewards sites that are mobile-friendly.

**Off-Page SEO**:

Off-page SEO refers to actions taken outside the boundaries of your own website. Essentially, it tells Google what others think about your site. Things that are included:

1. **Backlinks**: This is arguably the most critical aspect of Off-Page SEO. Backlinks are links to your site from other websites. High-quality, relevant backlinks from authoritative websites can significantly boost your SEO rankings.

2. **Social Media Marketing/Engagement**: While the direct correlation between social signals and rankings isn't fully confirmed, there's no denying that a robust social media presence helps drive traffic.

3. **Guest Posting**: Writing articles or posts for other websites can help earn valuable backlinks.

4. **Influencer Outreach**: If you can get influencers in your industry to share your content or link to your site, this could significantly boost your SEO rankings.

Remember, while both On-Page and Off-Page SEO are integral for a robust SEO strategy, it's vital to focus on creating high-quality, valuable, and relevant content above all else for your target audience. This offers the best chance for organic growth and higher visibility on SERPs.

let's break down some more elements under both On-Page and Off-Page SEO Optimization.

On-Page SEO

On page SEO not only includes content, but also the underlying architecture of the site:

Content Quality: Your webpages should provide high quality content that is relevant to your audience's needs and interests. The content should be unique, regularly updated, and provide substantial value to the users.

Images and Multimedia: Images, videos, infographics and other forms of media can enhance a user's experience. For SEO, images should have descriptive alt text and filenames, which can include keywords.

Usability and User Experience: A site that's easy to navigate and enjoyable to use can result in better user signals, such as lower bounce rate and longer dwell time. These user signals can in turn affect rankings.

Structured Data Markup: Implementing schema markup can help search engines understand your content better and improve how your page is displayed in SERPs, enhancing visibility and potentially improving click-through rates.

HTTPS/SSL: Websites secured with HTTPS are favored by search engines because they provide users with a safe browsing experience.

Off-page SEO

Off-page SEO involves techniques to improve a website's visibility by obtaining high-quality incoming links:

Brand Mentions: Even if a link is not included, brand mentions can signal to search engines the popularity and relevance of your site.

Reviews and Ratings: Positive reviews and ratings on business review sites and other platforms build trust and credibility among users, and can influence search behavior and rankings. Google, for instance, incorporates business reviews into its local SEO algorithm.

Online Directories and Local SEO: Listing your business in high-quality online directories, particularly for local enterprises, can not only provide backlinks, but also contribute to search engine visibility. Local SEO, such as Google My Business profiles, also factors in to visibility.

Forums and Community Engagement: Engaging in industry or topic-relevant communities and forums can drive referral traffic and potentially generate backlinks.

Let's delve deeper and discuss some advanced techniques of On-Page and Off-Page SEO Optimization.

Advanced On-Page SEO

Semantic SEO: Instead of focusing solely on keywords, Semantic SEO concerns itself with topic clusters, tapping into the relationships between different concepts in a piece of content. This involves optimizing for related keywords, synonyms, and close variants to satisfy a wider variety of search queries.

LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) Keywords: These are conceptually related terms that search engines use to deeply understand content on a webpage. Incorporating them can help rank your content more accurately for relevant queries.

Core Web Vitals: A set of metrics introduced by Google to measure web usability - like how quickly the page loads (Largest Contentful Paint), how soon it becomes interactive (First Input Delay), and how stable it is as it loads (Cumulative Layout Shift). Google factors Core Web Vitals into its ranking algorithm.

Voice Search Optimization: As the usage of voice assistants is on the rise, optimizing your content for voice search is becoming increasingly important. This often involves focusing on long-tail keywords and formulating your content in a more conversational tone.

Advanced Off-Page SEO

Broken Link Building: This strategy involves finding broken (404) links on other websites, creating similar content on your website, and then telling the website owner about their broken link and offering your link as a replacement.

Skyscraper Technique: Invented by Brian Dean of Backlinko, this involves finding content in your niche that's already highly linked to, creating a better version of that content, and reaching out to the right people who are likely to link to your content.

Influencer Partnerships: Having influencers in your niche share your content or review your products can help you reach a wider audience as well as earn backlinks and social votes, which are signals to search engines of your content's quality and relevance.

Unlinked Brand Mention: You can use tools to find mentions of your brand on the internet that aren't linked to your site, then contact the website owner and request them to add a link.

If you are looking for more advanced tips and strategies, here are some more can potentially increase your website's SEO performance.

Advanced On-Page SEO

TF-IDF Analysis: Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency is a numerical statistic used to reflect how important a word is to a document in a collection or corpus. Use TF-IDF tools to identify relevant keywords that are underused in your content.

Page Segmentation: Placement of your keywords matters. Search engines view keywords in certain page areas - like the title and header - as more important than others.

EAT (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness): Google's search evaluation quality guidelines mention EAT as an important factor of page quality. Google tends to rank high-quality content from reliable sources higher. So, emphasizing your expertise on your website and creating high-quality content is crucial.

Optimization for Featured Snippets: Featured snippets can result in increased visibility on the results page. Identify common questions your audience asks that are related to your business, and provide concise, clear, and informative answers to these questions in your content.

Advanced Off-page SEO

Co-Occurrence and Co-Citation: Co-Occurrence refers to the frequency and proximity with which certain keywords appear on different websites. Co-citation, on the other hand, happens when two different websites are mentioned together on a separate third-party website, suggesting a semantic relationship between the two. Both can influence the keyword context and can help websites rank for those semantically similar terms.

Podcast Guesting: Being a guest on a podcast can be a great way to earn a high-quality backlink to your website. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to share your expertise with a wider audience.

PR and Outreach: A solid public relations strategy can involve organically promoting high-quality content to influencers, press and on social media to gain backlinks.

Affiliate Marketing: While not feasible for every business and sometimes considered controversial in SEO, when handled carefully, affiliate links can increase visibility and generate traffic for both your site and others with related products or services.

I can expand further on some advanced SEO techniques you might find useful both in terms of on-page and off-page SEO.

Advanced On-Page SEO

Schema Markup or Structured Data: Utilizing schema.org markup offers a way to enhance your website's listings on SERPs. It helps search engines better understand your content and can add additional visual elements to your listings, which can increase click-through rates.

Video SEO: If you're using video on your site, optimize it by adding a video transcript, using relevant keywords in your video title and description, tagging it with relevant keywords, and submitting a video sitemap on Google Search Console.

Internal Linking: An often overlooked aspect of on-page SEO is internal linking, which not only helps keep visitors on your site longer, but also helps Google understand the structure and hierarchy of your website, enabling easier navigation for bots.

Mobile Optimization: Making your website mobile-friendly has become a crucial factor in SEO, as Google has implemented the mobile-first indexing approach since July 2019. A website that isn't optimized for mobile can negatively affect rankings on the SERP.

Advanced Off-page SEO

Community Creation and Engagement: Establishing a community around your brand can be beneficial for SEO. Think about creating a Facebook group, or engaging with your user base on platforms like Reddit or Quora.

Content Marketing: Developing a strategy to promote your content is key. It might involve creating interactive content such as quizzes, infographics, webinars, or even conducting original research.

Guest Blogging: Despite some controversy, when done properly, guest blogging can still be an effective strategy for building high-quality backlinks and increasing your website's exposure.

Local SEO Optimization: For businesses with a local presence, optimizing for local SEO can be very beneficial. This includes claiming and optimizing your Google My Business listing, gathering positive reviews, and ensuring your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) details are consistent across the web.

Here are even more advanced SEO techniques that can lead to improvements in both on-page and off-page SEO success:

Advanced On-Page SEO

Voice Search Optimization: As more people use voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant, optimizing your site for voice search becomes crucial. This often involves long-tail keywords and creating content that answers specific questions users might ask.

Google AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages): Implementing Google AMP can speed up the load time of your mobile web pages, improving user experience and potentially improving your mobile rankings.

Multilingual SEO: If your business operates in multiple countries or targets different language speakers, a multilingual SEO strategy including hreflang tags and localized content can help you reach as many people as possible.

Improve Site Speed: Site speed is a ranking factor for Google. Perform regular checkups using tools like Google's PageSpeed Insights, and make necessary improvements to ensure your site loads quickly.

Advanced Off-page SEO

Competitor Backlink Analysis: Use tools such as Ahrefs or SEMRush to examine where your competitors are earning backlinks from and try to earn links from the same websites.

Influencer Partnerships: Collaborating with influencers in your industry can help you achieve high visibility and generate more traffic and backlinks.

Diversified Link Building: Don't only rely on one method for link building. Use a diverse set of strategies including guest blogging, broken link building, and creating infographics.

Reputation Management: Monitor what is being said about your business online, respond to reviews and comments, and try to resolve any negative feedback in a positive and professional manner. This not only helps maintain a positive brand reputation, but it can also lead to higher click-through rates.

And after all recent updates  of Google is it safe to use this trick?

I think off page optimization is better than on page optimization. Because on page seo given just 40% benefit but off page seo given 60% benefit.

There are two main types of search engine optimization – on-page and off-page. On-page is probably the simplest of these two aspects of search engine optimization. It relates to the elements on the web page itself. That is, the words, and what importance is given to the words on the page.
