Re-directs?
« on: 10-27-2011, 03:24:04 »
I have some anchor text out there for which google is sending me alot of traffic that is no longer relevant to my site. I am wondering if there is a way to harness this. I put a link on my site that will let visitors know that they can 'click here' for what they are looking for, but that doesn't seem to do it.

Is there anyway I can set up the .htaccess file that says everytime I get traffic from google (or any SE) with these keywords then re-direct them to a page that is specific to that key word.

Example only: my site is for dogs but it used to be a cat site. I want to set it up so that whenever the keyword cat is used, I will redirect them to my special cats page.

Thanks

Its better to optimize your site (category pages) with the relevant keyword (anchor text). So that you can get targeted traffic.

Every site needs to have redirects (e.g. for example, from your non-www version of your site to your www version or vice versa). And if you don’t, you’re leaving money on the table. In addition, sites evolve over time and URLs change.

If you are still dealing with the previous theme on some other website it will be great to put a redirection from the previous URL to new one but if you have completely changed your website's theme then you cannot do anything for this. If you put a redirection the kind of traffic you will be receiving not gonna help you.
