Before Google Sites will generate a sitemap, you must verify your site with Google Search Console:

Sign in to Google Search Console using the same account information you use to sign in to Google Sites.
Click "Add a site...", enter the base URL of your Google Site in the box that pops up, then click "Continue."
On the following page, select the radio button next to Add a meta tag to your site's home page.
Copy the meta tag (for example, <meta name="google-site-verification" content="z5mJLjVGtEe5qzCefW1pamxI7H46u19n4XnxEzgl1AU" />) from the Instructions box.
In a new browser window or tab, navigate to the Google Site you wish to verify. (You will need to go back to the Search Console page, so do not close it.)
Click the More actions button  and select Manage site.
Select the General tab under the Site Setting area.
Paste the meta tag that you copied on the Google Search Console site in the box next to Google Search Console verification.
Click "Save changes."
Go back to the Search Console page where you copied the meta tag.
Click "Verify."
2. Submitting your Google Site's sitemap to Google Search Console

On your Search Console home page, select your site.
In the left sidebar, click Site configuration and then Sitemaps.
Click the Add/Test Sitemap button in the top right.
Enter /system/feeds/sitemap into the text box that appears.
Click Submit Sitemap.

Using sitemaps has many benefits, not only easier navigation and better visibility by search engines. Sitemaps offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site.

XML Sitemap is an easy way for you to publish all your URLs to the Google catalog and get specific reviews about the exposure of web site on Google. This helps search search engines to more wisely spider a website and keep their results updated.

It has many benefits like easier navigation, better visibility by search engines. Sitemaps offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site.  Also, when you have a sitemap and submit it to the search engines, you rely less on external links  that will bring search engines to your site. Sitemaps also help in classifying  your site content, through search engines are by  no means obliged to classify a page as belonging to a particular category or as matching a particular keyword only because you have told them so.

You can alternatively make a sitemap record document (a document that focuses to a rundown of sitemaps) and present that solitary list record to Google. You can present numerous sitemaps ...

This wiki article on sitemaps will give you more technical and historical details. Simply stated, a sitemap file includes all the URLs of your blog, and you suggest that file search engines to let them understand about all the surfaces of your blog. Search engine bots follow sitemap files to crawl and index your website.

This wiki article on sitemaps will give you progressively specialized and chronicled subtleties. Just expressed, a sitemap record contains every one of the URLs of your blog, and you present that document to web indexes to tell them pretty much every one of the pages of your blog. Internet searcher bots pursue sitemap records to creep and file your site.

Using sitemaps has many benefits, not only easier navigation and better visibility by search engines. Sitemaps offer the opportunity to inform search engines immediately about any changes on your site.

Sitemaps can even help with messy internal links - for instance, if you by accident have broken internal links or orphaned pages that cannot be reached in another way (though there is no doubt that it is much better to fix your errors than rely on a sitemap).

Sitemaps also help in classifying your site content, though search engines are by no means obliged to classify a page as belonging to a particular category or as matching a particular keyword only because you have told them so.

A sitemap is a file where you can list the web pages of your site to tell Google and other search engines about the organization of your site content. Search engine web crawlers like Googlebot read this file to more intelligently crawl your site.

A sitemap does help Google to lead its crawlers through your site, therefore saving crawling budget, though. But a lack of a sitemap is not fatal.

A sitemap is an XML file that contains all the URLs of the website's web pages. This file helps the crawlers to find all the pages.  Also, by submitting a sitemap to GSC you can easily check indexing status and many other important things.

The sitemap is the very first thing need to do to fetch the website URL after uploading the site to the server. It is also good if you do the SITEMAP submission after doing on-page changes for your website.
