Hi Folks,

I am administrating a website which is a classified. Turns out there are a lot of changes on its sitemap due Ads which are deleted by the users.

Since January we are putting deleted Ads in private in order to get less 404 Errors, the thing is, Google can´t find the Private Ad and it returns an error as well.

My question is: What is the best procedure in this case?
- Delete the AD and update the sitemap.
- Private the AD and redirect the Error.

I am using Yoast SEO.

Thank you!

In this case, it is recommended to delete the ads that have been deleted by users and update the sitemap accordingly. This ensures that your website's sitemap accurately reflects the current state of your classifieds. By removing the deleted ads from the sitemap, you can avoid confusing search engines like Google with outdated or non-existent content. Additionally, you should regularly monitor and update your sitemap to keep it up to date.

As for the private ads that cannot be accessed by Google, it is important to note that search engines cannot crawl or index private content. Therefore, there is no need to redirect the error for these private ads. Instead, focus on providing relevant and accessible content to search engines, making sure they can accurately index your active and public ads.

considerations for managing your website's sitemap and optimizing it for search engines:

1. Prioritize active ads: Since private ads cannot be accessed by search engines, make sure your sitemap primarily includes active and public ads that are accessible to search engines. This helps search engines understand and index the content that is available to users.

2. Regularly update the sitemap: As new ads are added and deleted on your classifieds website, it's important to update the sitemap accordingly. This ensures that the sitemap reflects the most current content on your site and helps search engines crawl and index the right pages.

3. Properly handle 404 errors: When an ad is deleted or no longer exists, it's important to handle the resulting 404 errors appropriately. You can consider implementing custom error pages or redirecting users to relevant pages to enhance user experience. However, for deleted ads, updating the sitemap and removing the URLs from it is still recommended.

4. Utilize SEO plugins: You mentioned using Yoast SEO, which is a popular SEO plugin for WordPress websites. Make sure you are leveraging its features effectively, such as XML sitemap generation and submission to search engines. Yoast SEO can also provide recommendations for optimizing your website's content and meta tags.

5. Monitor search engine indexing: Keep an eye on how search engines are crawling and indexing your website by regularly reviewing your website's search console data. This can help you identify any indexing issues or errors that need to be addressed.

few more considerations for managing your website's sitemap and optimizing it for search engines:

1. XML Sitemap Configuration: Ensure that your sitemap is configured properly in Yoast SEO or any other SEO plugin you are using. Verify that all relevant sections of your classifieds website, such as categories, tags, and individual ads, are included in the sitemap and being updated as needed.

2. URL Canonicalization: Implement URL canonicalization to avoid duplicate content issues. This involves specifying the preferred version of a URL (such as www.example.com vs. example.com) to prevent search engines from indexing duplicate versions of your content.

3. Metadata Optimization: Optimize the meta titles and descriptions for your ads. Use relevant keywords and compelling language that entices users to click through to your website from search engine results pages (SERPs).

4. Page Speed Optimization: Improve the loading speed of your classifieds website, as site speed is an important ranking factor for search engines. Optimize images, minify CSS and JavaScript files, leverage browser caching, and consider using a content delivery network (CDN) to enhance performance.

5. User-generated Content: If users are able to leave comments or reviews on your ads, ensure that you have systems in place to moderate and manage this content effectively. User-generated content can be valuable for SEO purposes but should also be monitored to prevent spam or harmful content that can negatively impact your website's reputation.

6. Mobile Optimization: Optimize your website for mobile devices. With the increasing use of smartphones and tablets, having a responsive design that provides a seamless user experience across different screen sizes is crucial for both user engagement and search engine visibility.

Private Blogs work wonders totally based on the niche.

If you promote a product on your site, attracting the right buyers works. So working on a strategy which involves the right keywords, design and the mindset of your audience will show you results in Traffic.

Google has reportedly taken action on sites participating in private blog ... links within the network as a way to help particular content rank better in Google. ... but instead just to generate links mainly for SEO ranking purposes.
