You can evaluate your website using Google PageSpeed insights tool and implement their recommendations. The key idea is to:
1. Reduce size of static content like images, js & css files.
2. Cache your html pages. Avoid dynamic html as much as possible
3. Avoid long running javascript functions. Sure you can have heavy js in internal pages but landing pages & blogs don't really need them.
You can also create accelerated mobile pages to improve mobile search rankings.
