The process of linking between two sites is known as Cross Linking, and is the art of creating links within a website.

In a traditional layout you might have a home page and then to other pages (page 1 and page 2). The home page would contain links to both.

Functions of cross linking

When one site is linked to another site it provides a way to accessing to it.
It serves the purpose to display the page on the search engines using search engine optimization techniques.
Site ranking is calculated on the basis of the relevance of the web page and then it is reflected on the search engine.

  • Cross-linking is the process of linking one site to another site.
It provides users with reference sites that contain the content related to the search.
The 2 websites cross-linking do not be owned by the same person.
In other words, cross-linking is a barter wherein I link to you, and you link to me.
It could be a 2-way link or a 3-way link. In a 2-way link site A links to site B and site B links to site A. In a 3-way link, site A links to site B, site B links to site C and site C links to site A.

These are black-hat techniques.
Google will penalize you if you do that.
You may even get de-indexed by Google if you do that consistently.
So steer away from cross-linking.

Cross linking refers to the process of linking between two sites. Whether or not they are owned by the same person, cross linking is the process on which the internet is built. It allows users to reference sites with content similar to that which they are already viewing, and may be of further interest to them.

Cross-linking is a good way to help the parties involved to a better position in rankings. If excessively done, this method can also cause negative effects. There is a risk that Google will consider these websites link networks or even link farms with boundless use of cross-linking because a remarkably rapid and unnatural growth of link popularity is observed. Cross-linking to subpages contributes to this. The building of link networks and link farms are considered a manipulation attempt and may result in penalties being issued by Google. Such penalties vary in degree and can even lead to permanent exclusion from rankings.
