Quick question for those of you that have been doing SEO for a while and understand backlinks quite well.

I have heard two things... One is that you should have 20% of your backlinks going to the homepage of your site www.site.com

and 80% of your backlinks going to all other pages of your site.

Other thing I've heard is that if you spend time on creating backlinks that the backlinks from a site that is more relevant

from your topic will have more googlejuice and therefore helps you rank higher than a general link directory of some sort...

Are both items true?

Hi,

The linkjuice should pass in equal amount to the inner pages including home page.. From my opinion 20% and 80% is not acceptable.. :)

You can create as many as possible. It is not fixed percentage for backlinks.

i understand you mentioning the 20/80 rule as quite a few people say this. firstly, it does not have to be exact. also it depends on your site for example, how many key words / phrases you use and how spread out are they over your website. because you are targeting those words, you ultimately want visitors to go to wherever those keywords are optimised in your site. so don't worry  about the percentage, but if you're homepage is optimised for your number1 targeted keyword, then get more links for the homepage.

inbound links should be from other websites that are relevant to yours as this can help in rankings and get some extra targeted traffic

There is no fixed ratio of backlinks required for hoe page to that of inner page.

Number of backlinks improve your search engine visibility, no matter its home page or inner page.

Ans, Yes, relevancy of the backlink to the web page is very important... Otherwise search engine devalue your backlinks.

I really don't think that it is as fixed as 20-80.. you can create your own ratio..

as per my knowledge creating back links form forums, directory submission and bookmarking are beneficial for creating back links but i have no idea of this 80% and 20% criteria .and i think it doesnt matters O0

We can not assume for any kind of definite percentage for backlinks page. But when google count the page rank it consider the each page value separately by backlinks , outbound links and by content.  So when you get backlinks for the pages , be sure for providing the fresh and unique content on quality sites so that they values more.

Hey there,

This is very nice question. Many many thanks for your sharing. Backlinks, also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links, are incoming links to a website or web page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node from another web node.

Thanks

do more backlinks for your site There is no fixed criteria for this at all. And you would like to be more indexed as well as read by search engines ,make back links to that page. This would enhance its page rank .Else making backlinks to home page would rather increase page rank of home page. The more the important page is ,create more backlinks to that page
