With the recent updates of Google Penguin and Panda and the introduction of Hummingbird, SEO is more complex than ever before. With the penalties on some of the most popular websites in the world, and the steady decline in the prominence of PageRank, traditional methods of SEO have constantly come under the scanner. While many techniques have gone obsolete already, others are feared because of their possible negative outcome. Link building is one such such technique that is under the strict surveillance of the Penguin. However, this should be seen as an opportunity and not a threat. This is because it is still one of the more prominent and effective ways to rank your website better. If done properly, it can be an excellent way to gain a competitive edge over the other websites. Here are a few things webmasters and SEO experts need to understand so that they could do it better in 2014.

Don't Overlook Link Building

Some webmasters think that link building can cause the Penguin to penalize a website and thus it can and should be substituted altogether by other methods. Wrong. According to a recent study, link building is still the most prominent way to rank high on search engine result pages. Google's head of search spam, Matt Cutts, himself stated, "Links are still the best way that we've found to discover (how relevant or important somebody is) and maybe, over time, social or authorship or other types of markup will give us a lot more information about that."

Stay Away From Link Schemes

It is important to know the difference between link building and link schemes so that you stay as far away from the latter as possible. With Google busting on link scheme after the other, it is important to know what you need to completely avoid. Here's a checklist of all the things that contribute to link scheme, not link building:

*Buying or selling links
*Linking only for the purpose of give-and-take
*Using services that build link automatically to your website
*Building a link network just to build links
*Spending on articles that build links
*Writing press releases with optimized anchor text
*Links that make no sense in the article
*Linking to unrelated and irrelevant websites

Focus on Quality, Relevance and Social Media

Building safe, relevant links and gaining relevance through proper link building and authority is the best way to rank higher in Google and other top search engines. Focus on good content marketing and social media popularity.

There are many new algorithms and changes in the older ones. Many new services have been introduced and many old services will phase out with time but the good old conventional methods of SEO will always remain evergreen.

I have really to desagree with you and your opinion about guest posting.....

just check in google : "guest posting in dead" and read some article here, you'll get some ingormation about the last google update and how he's reacting to guest posting....

so it's still working if you're making quality content and on quality blogs but to be the best way to build link i'm very not sure of it. web 2.0 is for me the best way to build link

Natural linking has become a mandatory factor in the current SEO scenarios. We have just show to Google that we are performing natural link building. For this purpose:

1. We shouldn't create anchor text on the same keyword too much times.
2. We should put naked URL as a link
3. We should create anchor text in different ways like click here, go here, click on this link, etc.

The best three way for link building are:

: Focus external link building efforts on the acquisition of editorially given links. These are links requiring human intervention and approval.
: Build links that are relevant – on pages where the readers would have a genuine interest in your website.
: Quality trumps quantity. A few links from high trust/authority websites will have more impact than hundreds of links from "Made for Guest Posting" blogs.
