Hi!

A few years ago I created a list for what applies to link exchanges. I hope it can be helpful. In addition, I am grateful for contributions to the list. Maybe not everything is up to date today or that something is missing.

1. You must have a site that corresponds to our common interests.
2. My link must be no more than 2 clicks away from your main page.
3. Your site must not contain any links to sеx or political sites.
4. Your index page and link pages must be indexed in Google, Bing and Yahoo.
5. Your link page where my site can be found must have at least PR1-PR2.
6. I accept no link farms.
7. I accept no sites with "nofollow" .
8. I accept no sites with bounderies in robots.txt.
9. I accept no sites with frames at the link pages.
10. I accept no sites with link systems.
11. I accept no sites with scripts to the link pages.
12. I accept no sites with question marks ("?") to the link page(s) without "do-follow".

Good luck!

It's great that you've specified the requirements clearly, such as the relevance of the websites, the proximity of the links, and the quality of the linking pages in terms of PageRank and indexing by search engines.

However, it's important to note that some of the criteria, such as PageRank (PR), may not be as relevant today due to changes in search engine algorithms. Google, for example, no longer updates public PageRank scores, so it might be more beneficial to focus on other indicators of a website's authority and quality.

Additionally, you may want to consider updating the list to reflect current best practices and trends in SEO and link building. For instance, the emphasis now is on natural and high-quality link building, rather than specific PageRank requirements.

Here are some additional suggestions for updating your list for link exchanges:

Consider prioritizing relevance and quality over specific PageRank requirements. Instead of focusing solely on PR1-PR2, you might want to evaluate websites based on their overall authority, relevance to your niche, and the quality of their content.

With the evolution of search engine algorithms, it's important to consider the naturalness of link placements. Avoid overly structured or systematic link exchanges that may appear manipulative to search engines.

Emphasize the importance of user experience. Ensure that the placement of links contributes positively to the overall user experience of both websites involved in the exchange.

Consider adding a requirement for mobile compatibility and site speed, as these are important factors in modern SEO and user experience.

Encourage organic and editorially-driven link placements rather than purely transactional link exchanges.

Emphasize the importance of natural and organic link building. Encourage links that are voluntarily placed by webmasters or editors due to the quality and relevance of your content, rather than solely for the purpose of exchange.

Consider incorporating a requirement for diversified anchor text. Natural link profiles have a mix of different anchor texts, so encouraging diversity in anchor text usage can be beneficial for SEO.

Given the importance of social signals in modern SEO, you may want to consider evaluating the social media presence and engagement of potential link exchange partners.

Include a clause regarding the ongoing maintenance and monitoring of links to ensure they remain active and relevant over time.

Consider the geographical relevance of potential link partners, especially if your website's audience is location-specific.

Take into account the overall quality and authority of the linking domain, rather than focusing solely on specific PageRank metrics. Domain Authority (DA) and Trust Flow are alternative metrics that can provide insights into a website's authority.

Encourage the use of relevant and contextually placed links within content, as these tend to be more valuable from an SEO perspective.

Consider specifying that the linking page should not have an excessive number of outbound links, as this can dilute the value of the link.

Include a provision for transparent and ethical link building practices, adhering to search engine guidelines to avoid potential penalties.

Given the increasing importance of user engagement metrics, consider evaluating the potential partner's website for factors such as bounce rate, average time on page, and overall user engagement.

Emphasize the importance of relevance and context when it comes to link placements. Links within relevant content or contextually related to the topic are considered more valuable from an SEO standpoint.

Consider assessing the overall link profile of potential link exchange partners to ensure they have a diverse and natural backlink profile. This can help in avoiding associations with websites that engage in spammy link practices.

Add a provision for regular review and clean-up of the link profile to ensure that any low-quality or irrelevant links are disavowed or removed. This can help maintain a healthy backlink profile.

Consider specifying the types of content or pages where you would prefer your link to be placed, such as informational articles, resource pages, or similar high-quality content.

Include a clause regarding the ongoing communication and collaboration with link exchange partners to ensure that both parties are mutually benefiting from the arrangement and to address any issues that may arise.

Consider implementing a vetting process to ensure that potential link partners have a good reputation and adhere to ethical SEO practices. This can help maintain the integrity of your website's backlink profile.

Emphasize the importance of natural and organic growth of backlinks over time, as this aligns with search engine guidelines and can contribute to long-term SEO success.

Include a provision for assessing the relevancy and quality of the entire website, not just the specific page where your link will be placed. A high-quality website is more likely to provide long-term value through a link exchange.

Consider specifying the types of industries or niches that are acceptable for link exchanges, ensuring that they align with your website's content and audience.

Add a clause regarding transparency and disclosure of any compensated links, in accordance with guidelines set forth by search engines.
