Do I need to link build for 10 sites?

I have a client that has a main website but because he's on different locations on the country instead of having sub-domains for each location inside the main domain, he decided to have 10 separate URL's for each location, and have links on the homepage for each URL.

I think he would benefit for having everything under the same domain, but he thinks he would get more good geographical rankings like this.

My question is: do I need to link build like it's 10 different websites? Or can I just link build for the main site?

Yes,you have to do the SEO task for each and every website to rank them higher in the various search engines..

i would better try to tell 100 reasons why 10 domains are worser than 1 for several regions. at least seo in that case would be 10 times more expensive or even more.
if not you are to make regional seo, that may differ from each other - too many unuseful work.

I would say that work for one website first, optimize the keywords which you are targeting now, when you get success then you can use other website as well.
