There are addons and extensions that you can download for your browser which will automatically indicate whether the link is dofollow or nofollow. It makes the job so much easier!

no follow doesn't count as back link to the site from search engine but it can be helpful as an traffic generate source if it's come from high pr sites. The idea behind a nofollow link is that a search engine will not click through a link flagged as such. A nofollow link can be good or bad depending on the context of how it is utilized.  !-!

Blog comments provide 'no follow' backlinks which are only helpful to generate traffic to your website. If you want to verify your links you can always go the webpage source and check the HTML link attribute against your website link.

Just hi Ctr+U when you'r on the prospective donor site. Then you'll see the code of that page. Check the containers for the links they're giving away. If you see ...rel="nofollow" it means that link is nofollow one.

A no follow link is a link that doesn’t “point” to another site (no signposts).  I think this is where people get confused, as people can still click onto a no follow link and get sent to another site, but in the eyes of the search engines they don’t “point” to anything.

By adding the no follow tag in a backlink, these links don't transfer link juice. Getting a link on Wikipedia is one of the top link building techniques out there.
