Title: why do links get dropped
Post by: MallofStyle on 10-01-2013, 09:18:32
Hello -

I have been working on my site since past 1 year.
Have been tracking on my links in majesticseo.

Can someone help me understand:
1. why is that the links get deleted from my site profile.
2. Are these usually links make by bots or even manual links get dropped over a period of time.

Thanks

Some of the link building site use to review the site regularly if they find any of the post irrelevant to their they drop them so i suggest try to make content relevant to the site you are posting to so that it won't get dropped.

Many factors like bad quality of contents of website, irrelevant data related to site tends to get dropped in ranking, some time due to sudden updation in google or other site, like current penguin updation also cause drop in ranking.

Just to be absolutely clear, if you are dropping links to your site in other people's forums in the hope of gaming search engines, then that's considered web-spam and can be taking into account by both our algorithms and our manual web-spam teams. It doesn't matter how much "PR" the other site has, it doesn't matter if it's a .gov forum -- what you're doing would be considered web-spam by us.

There are some common reasons why links can be dropped:
- Google Standbox effect started;
- Algorithm updates
- Malware
- server issues
- robot.txt file problems
- penalization
-  broken links
- duplicate content
- the Google Dance

There are several reasons why links drop such as poor or irrelevant content, Irrelevant niche submissions, submissions that has expiry dates(Classifed Ads/Business Listings), bypassing rules and regulations of websites where you have submitted the content. temporary link submissions, the page does not exist where. Low authoritative websites submissions(these websites don’t have long life).
There some other things such as Google updates, Malware detection, robots.txt error.
Avoid these things and get permanent links.

1. You’re tracking the wrong rankings: In recent years there has been a shift toward “natural language” when it comes to searches, that is, people typing, or increasingly speaking, complete sentences into search engines, rather than just a few keywords.
2. The Google “dance”: It’s normal for rankings to fluctuate. Not just from one day to the next, but from one computer to another, one location to another, and based on a host of other variables.
3. New website: If you launch a new design for an existing website you can expect your rankings to drop, regardless of what you do to prepare for that launch, and regardless of how much better the new website is, in terms of SEO, than the old one.
4. New website no longer: You launched a redesigned website to replace an old one and the rankings went down, then came back up quickly, even higher than they were before, and now they’ve gone back down slightly.

There may be many reasons for why do links get dropped, As some Webmasters change their Blogs URL, remove URL so some links get dropped.

We normally come across such situations almost every few months.

One of my friend (who is a local business owner) was doing fine with organic traffic and rankings. But one day I got a call from him stating they are losing Google traffic and rankings from past few days for reasons unknown to him. After evaluating the website, I came to know that they recently made some coding development and their developers by mistake set their homepage as the default canonical URL for every single page on the website.

We set that to original URLs and within 2-3 weeks they were back to normal. Sometimes, we unknowingly commit mistakes which we could have avoided. :)

Thanks

So while there are many reasons why particular pages will be removed a small handful seem the most common. Naturally, depending upon the difficulty of the keyword, it could be because the domain no longer has sufficient authority to maintain it.

For example, ranking for something like car insurance and making it even on the board somewhere at the 100th placemark would be a feat many websites simply will never achieve in terms of authority.

Another common reason a link will be removed is if it's deemed worthless by Google for a number of factors:

I suppose the takeaway is to be sure to check Google WebMasters when encountering issues such as these. It's not going to be the solution every time, but a good majority of the time it is.

Just to be completely clear, on the off chance that you are dropping connects to your website in other individuals' discussions in the expectation of gaming web search tools, at that point that is viewed as web-spam and can be considering by both our calculations and our manual web-spam groups. It doesn't make a difference the amount "PR" the other webpage has, it doesn't make a difference if it's a .gov discussion - what you're doing would be vie

Dropped are joins from pages that were expelled from our file because of different reasons. These include:

Page copies: We crept a "superior" page with a similar substance

Prohibited: The page was refused by robots.txt for somewhere around 2 months

Inaccessible: The page restored a blunder multiple times, and the last effective download was somewhere around multi-month old

Space does not exist any longer

The page has a low URL rating

There can be some reasons and one of those are "Broken Redirects"
If you are launching a new website, migrating to a new server, or do any structural changes to your site, unless you have a proper 301 redirect plan in place, you are likely to see a drop in your rankings.

When using a 301-redirect, you must make sure that XML sitemaps, canonical tags, and links are also updated.

A 301 redirect is akin to a change of address notice for the web. This notice tells search engines that a page, several pages, or your entire website has been moved. You are asking that your website visitors be sent to your new address and not your old one.

If done correctly, you won’t lose your rankings, nor will you get penalized for duplicate content because search engines are indexing both your old and new web address.3. Broken Redirects

Yes it is possible. Because some of the sites always check the links and if they found it not relevant they may remove that link from their website. I have been SEO for long time and face same issue so I know how that works. Don't worry find new website and keep building quality links.

Particularly, if your site doesn't have a lot of links, the links you lose can have a substantial impact on your rankings. Diagnosis: If lost links do result in a ranking drop, the drop is usually moderate. ... To check if lost links are the reason your rankings dropped, launch SEO SpyGlass and open your project.
