Tags helps to increase the visibility of your website in search engines. Alt tags are generally used to define an image to help search engine know about your website images and rank it higher in search results.

Yes of course. Alt tag is mandatory for image optimization. Rather than text, Google also optimize images that's why Alt tag was created. A webmaster should focus on this.

writing descriptive alt tags for images is an onpage SEO technique. Search engine understand images through alt tags what the image is about so it is a good practice to use keywords as the image name and also alt tag for better on page optimization

Google, in their article about images, has a heading "Create a great alt text". This is not a coincidence, Google places a relatively high value on alt texts to detrmine what is on the image but also to determine the topic of surrounding text.

The alt tag is an attribute of the image tag and is meant to be an alternative for non-visual browsers when they come across images.
This means, that the text is meant to be used when the image is not visible on the page. Instead, what is displayed (or read) is the alternative text.

yes it helps heaps. It helps Google understand what the image is about. You want to optimize every single image you possibly can before putting it on your site and Alt tags are part of that. Also, when an image links to a site, it's alt tag acts as the anchor text

As bot can't read images so we need alt tag to name the image, it should be our keyword so that it will help in ranking.
