my keyword strategy for parenting website?
« on: 03-27-2016, 15:02:36 »
I'm optimizing a website for parents on a number of parenting topics.

I've considered a few ideas:

parenting styles -- Googling this returns a lot of jargon. "Style" seems to be a psychological construct, not useful to users seeking specific answers to questions.

parenting classes -- A lot of local classes, which seems to suit new parents looking for a brick-and-mortar space. It's also a common term for court-appointed parenting classes, again, not useful to us.

parenting tips -- not a lot of searches, 1600 a month, plus it eats 15 characters at the front.

Naturally we're up against sites like and, which are way ahead of us for anything with those words.

It seems the best way to go is optimizing different sections of the site with lots of content under larger topics like ADHD, first signs of pregnancy, etc. That is, optimize each section for best keywords for topics related to each other by parenting.

I found some notes from an SEO firm the company considered and they, too, didn't submit ideas with "parenting" or "parents" in them. (They also suggested terms like "baby names" which have a lot of searches but are not relevant to our site.)

Thanks for reading. What do you think?
