Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page.
2 - 5% is the optimal one.

Keyword Density = (Nkr / Tkn) x 100

Where:

Density = your keyword density
Nkr = how many times you repeated a specific keyword
Tkn = total words in the analyzed text

As per my experience 2-3% is the ideal keyword density and I will suggest you to go with long tail keywords because after Hummingbird update from Google the importance of long tail keywords are increased.

Keyword density is the percentage of the keyword that appears on a web page. 3% ratio is better for SEO.

To calculate keyword density use this formula:

(Nkr/Tkn)∗100

Nkr = how many times you repeated a keyword.

Tkn = total words in the web page.

Keyword Density = (Nkr / Tkn) x 100
Density = your keyword density
Nkr = how many times you repeated a specific keyword
Tkn = total words in the analyzed text

Keyword density = (Nkr / Tkn) x 100
= (15 / 500) x 100
= 0.03 x 100
=3
Keyword density = 3%

Keyword density refers to the percentage of time that your keyword appears in a piece of text. It is proved, that there is no an optional keyword destiny, and in the fact, paying too much attention to keyword destiny often leads to poor-quality, over-optimised content.
