Hey members.

What is Bounce Rate in SEO?

RichardSmith

Hi Friends,

Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. A high bounce rate suggests that more and more visitors are finding your website slow, irrelevant or unappealing.

Thanks and Regards

Hello everybody,

Bounce rate is a very important metric for website owners. It basically tells you what percentage of your visitors are "bouncing" away after landing on your site.

Its a percentage of traffic which leaves your website without scrolling or entering into another page. Mostly the traffic from social media increases the bounce rate.

As most of the people said here, bounce rate is the percentage of people that came to your site and left without clicking any links or visiting any pages.

But what people didn't say is that a high bounce rate can be a good thing if the user found what they were looking for.  Typically you want a low bounce rate(low percentage) because that means people came to your site and looked around more.  But it depends on the nature of your website.

It is a common miconception that bounce rate is tied to time spent on the website.  As with the majority of postings on this thread, bounce rate is the percentage of people that leave your website without clicking anything on your landing page.  i.e visitors that do not navigate around the website.  This is often related to less time spent on the webstie (fairly self explanatory if they do not navigate) but you could spend minutes reading the front page but if you do not click on anything and leave you have still 'bounced'.

Useful for SEO:
- Shows percentage of people who do not navigate your website.
- Key indicator that your landing page/website is not interesting or 'sticky' enough to make people want to know more.  This could be due to a multitude of factors including website clarity, unique content, website functionality or content etc.
- A high bounce rate may affect Google's consideration or 'trust' in your page.
