SSL is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. Google gives credit for websites with SSL certificate.

According to javascriptkit: A highly useful feature that lets you do incredibly time saving tasks such as include the contents of an external file across multiple pages on your site, or access and display server specific information such as the current server time, visitor's IP address, etc. SSI is a Linux/Apache specific feature, so if you're on a Windows server for example, you'll need to look for the Windows equivalent of SSI. To test if your server supports SSI then, you can run a simple test, by inserting the below code inside a web page, and saving the page with a .shtml extension (the most common extension configured to parse SSI by default):
<!--#echo var="DATE_LOCAL" -->

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral.

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer, and it’s a protocol which sits on top the normal web framework. It’s part of a larger security protocol. SSL is used on website pages where personal or confidential information can be typed in. Ecommerce sites are perfect examples of this. Think of how much personal data customers type in while ordering something online – credit card numbers, home addresses, etc.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a standard technology behind establishing an encrypted connection between a web server and a web browser and this connection makes sure that all the data passed between them remain private and intrinsic. SSL is used by millions of websites to protect their online transactions with their customers.

SSL certificates are small sets of data that link the digital cryptographic key with company details. The letter SSL stan for Secure Socket Layer - the level of sockets secured.
Basically, SSL certificates are being used to secure data during operations with credit cards and data transmissions which are include logins and passwords. currently, SSL are also being used for secure surfing of social network pages.  As a conclusion, I would like to say that  SSL certificate is necessary for the online store so that the clients are certain about the security of their data. However, even for those websites not connected with e-commerce  the SSL certificate is a good practice.
