If you have a single page accessible by multiple URLs, or different pages with similar content (for example, a page with both a mobile and a desktop version), Google sees these as duplicate versions of the same page. Google will choose one URL as the canonical version and crawl that, and all other URLs will be considered duplicate URLs and crawled less often.

Canonical Tag Send Signal to Search Engine that this is a Maser Copy of Content.
Canonical tag is helpful to prevent plagiarized or duplicate content issue.

A canonical tag (aka "rel canonical") is a way of telling search engines that a specific URL represents the master copy of a page. Using the canonical tag prevents problems caused by identical or "duplicate" content appearing on multiple URLs.

A canonical tag is a way of telling search engines that a special URL represents the original copy of a page. Using the canonical tag checks difficulties created by identical or "duplicate" content appearing on multiple URLs.

Canical url is used to encourage the search engines to crawl the page. It helps to get identified by the search engines easily & helps to categorize your content in a relevant results.

Google will choose one URL as the canonical version and crawl that, and all other URLs will be considered duplicate URLs and crawled less often. Canonical  is used to specify which URL that you want people to see in search results.
