Title: DMOZ Listing
Post by: simonr on 06-08-2011, 08:22:42
Does a DMOZ listing really improve search results? I finally got my site listed after 12 months and things don't seem to have improved much.

A lot of search engines and directories take there info from dmoz. So yeah it helps but dont expect your ranking to explode only because of DMOZ. It doesn´t

discipline-testing moment of every webmaster's life - the 6 month mark. That's about how long a site will spend getting tested and tweaked by Google in the search results. If you've made a high-quality website, and your visitors really appreciate what you've done, you'll start to see your traffic boost up at about the 9 month mark, and really start rocking after 12 months.

So there's no need to worry, just keep your head down and keep grinding away.

Don't worry about your Toolbar PR, it's not a really helpful way to measure your progress. And don't chase specific keywords, checking how you rank from day to day on specific keyphrases. You'll drive yourself crazy.

The solution is to add amazing content to your website that matches what people are looking for. Keep in mind the two things I said there (amazing content, people are looking for). As you add more information to your website about bands, musicians, industry insider stuff, contracts, gigs, instruments, tricks and techniques, you'll find your total traffic from the search engines will rise and rise like a tide.

So, make a great site, with compelling content that your audience is looking for, and you'll see your traffic increase.

What people are looking for solutions that match the contents of the Web site is to add amazing. Said there are two (surprising, people are looking for), keep in mind. You band, musicians, industry insiders goods, contracts, concert, musical instruments, tricks and techniques on your website for more information to add, so you'll find that the total traffic from search engines, like the tide rising and will rise is.

It always amazes how people seem to think that being listed on DMOZ is some how  going to rank and list them at the top of the SERP's with huge PR  and have an all round magical effect.  It's just a directory.

The variety of options can make choosing a health plan challenging, but it can also ... Texas insurance law defines a small employer as a business with two to 50. A Private / Public Health Insurance Plan ... statewide health insurance program designed for small business owners. The Healthy Texas program is a statewide health insurance benefit plan designed for small business owners and their employees.

:D DMOZ listing ... I also sumbit my site long time ago, but till now, ofcourse, have no result.

There are 2 golden rules when sumbit your site to DMOZ.
01/ Don't do this twice!
02/ Sumbit it and forget it !

:) Good luck !

It is a very positive action what you have done registering to Dmoz. It is one of the biggest directories. Unfortunately it takes some time before you could see any real results, you r question was how long it might take, there is no specific timeline, but judging from my experience I could say that it normally take from a few days to a few weeks, rarely more than a month or so. Good PR however takes longer than that and is not only associated with listing your site on a major directory.

The best friend is the ODP editor

Anyone here is an editor at DMOZ?   ;D

Doubt it. Looks like a lot of posts come from bots (strange quotes, no attempt to engage in dialogue or make an obvious answer). ODP editors as busy as they are would prefer some other forums...

DMOZ is becoming less and less consistent with accepting submissions.
I have submitted so many, but no luck.

However when I did get one of my sites approved - ranking did increase.

They didn't "recalculate" PR for ages, how the ranking of your site could increase?!? Or you meant position in SERP? Or what they call "real PR" on this site?

DMOZ (from directory.mozilla.org, an earlier domain name) is a multilingual open-content directory of World Wide Web links. The site and community who maintain it are also known as the Open Directory Project (ODP). It is owned by AOL but constructed and maintained by a community of volunteer editors.

Achieving a DMOZ listing is like getting a big thumbs up that your website is legitimate, trustworthy and not illegal or scammy. Google and other search engines are always looking for signals to determine whether your website is trustworthy enough to show up in the search results.
