Hello friends,

what happened to DMOZ? And what now?

damponting44

DMOZ was a website intended to sort out the web using volunteer human editors and born during a time when an opponent to the prevailing Yahoo Directory was viewed as required. Yahoo had confronted feedback as being too powerful and excessively troublesome for websites, making it too difficult for websites to be approve.

Dmoz directory is totally outdated now. Its of no use, so please don't waste your precious time. Instead of Dmoz, I would suggest you to go for Social Bookmarking, Press Release, Article Directory, Guest Posting.

Dmoz closed because AOL no longer wished to support the project. Without funding websites can't survive.

DMOZ closed on March 17, 2017, because AOL no longer wished to support the project. The website became a single landing page on that day, with links to a static archive of DMOZ, and to the DMOZ discussion forum, where plans to rebrand and relaunch the directory are being discussed.
