I've been coding in Java where i work for some time. I started off with Java 2 back in 2000, and since then took a break from development despite 5 years solid development experience. I'm thinking of getting a development job again and was wondering if it's worth me getting Java Certified so that I can start picking up some contract jobs up soon.

Is it worth me paying for the certification and doing the exams, or is my experience enough (i.e. I should just pick up the latest book and brush up on what's happening with the Language)

Why do you need that certification?
You can work as free-lancer.
If your knowledge is good, you will always get job.

If you are doing a freelance job online then no need of it, but if you want to do day job, I mean in a company near to your town, then you should have one, because all they see is certificates....

You haven't been very specific.  Do you want this job as your main source of income, a standard 9 to 5 job?  Or just to bring in a few hundred bucks on the side?
