If you need to support Microsoft products such as ASP, MS Access, or VBScript, then Windows hosting would be better. Furthermore, if you are comfortable with IIS and do not have the time to understand how UNIX works, Windows hosting would again be a better choice.

Unix refers to the open source platform that is used for hosting services. They are provided with root access to login to your server and provide with more security compared to Windows server. Windows work as desktop computers and they use remote desktop login to access your server. They are provided with GUI for ease of access.
