3 Pitfalls of Link Building
« on: 09-21-2012, 12:43:09 »
When it comes to improving your rank in the search engines, nothing is more important that link building. What's really important, though, is that you build links in the right manner; otherwise, your link building efforts can be counterproductive. Some newcomers to internet marketing put in a great deal of work link building, only to find out later that they were not going about it in the right way. You can build links to improve your website's rank, but if you want good long term results you have to do it honestly and using the right strategy. If you are new to internet marketing or SEO, you should know about some of the ways you can go wrong with link building. If you read the following description of common link building mistakes, you'll know to avoid them.

One of the most common mistakes is to do all the work of getting a quality link and then using untargeted anchor text. When reviewing content on the other sites, I come across so many backlinks that use phrases such as, "Click Here" and "Buy Now" - I doubt that those are the keywords your site is based on. Anchor text is more important than you may think, so get into the habit of using your main keywords when making backlinks. You give each backlink more "juice" every time you use your keywords as anchor text.

If you were thinking about buying links then think again. High Pagerank backlinks can put you ahead of the competition. You can do what many people are doing and spend hundreds and u to thousands of dollars per year to get a backlink on a high PageRank page but what many people who are buying these types of links don't know is that they are wasting their money. You end up spending too much money for your results. A lot of people are buying them to get instant rankings, which is actually the downside. Like I always say, Google is more advanced than it used to be and recognizes these patterns, and snatches your site off the first page before you can see any positive returns. Your goal with link building is to keep it as natural/organic as humanly possible.

Also, don't do the blunder of not using ALT text if the only option is to use an image. Yes, image links cannot be compared to text links but if there's a time when the only way to have a backlink is through an image, don't ignore it. Be sure that the ALT text of any images you use have your keywords listed. These methods are proven to work so if you take the time to learn them you will be ahead of 90% of the competition. By staying diligent you will build hundreds of high PR links that are relevant to your site.
