Hello everyone! I have started my own therapy practice and am doing my own SEO.  My keywords are “therapist Rockville md.”  That’s what gets searched the most according to google ad words.  So I didn’t show up on google if you typed “therapist Rockville md.”  I made some changes to my website adding those key words (my website is through wix).  I showed up on page 13 and I though “great, this is a starting point.” I then created a my google business page and verified my business.  Now I am back to not being found and it has been like this for 3 weeks.  I have been trying to generate backlinks by listing my business on different databases (i.e. yelp, bing, linkedin, yp.com, manta etc.).  I'm not sure if I screwed something up somewhere or if I need to be more patient.  I hope someone can give me some insight as I am trying to generate some business.  Thanks in advance!

If you are building backlinks make sure you are getting do-follow not no-follow. The websites you mentioned yelp, bing, linkedin, I don't think they give do-follow attribute. You should read some more articles on off-page seo, other wise you will end up making further mistakes. Although it's nice that you are doing everything by yourself. So, invest some more time then you will get a hang of it. If you have change in mind look for a consultant.

3 weeks is a very short time to determine whether your SEO efforts are working or not. Sometimes it takes more than 6 months to start seeing results while sometimes it takes 2 months at least to start seeing your page getting ranked higher in SERP.

In a nutshell, it depends on the keywords you choose, their search volume & competition. Later, the weightage is brought by efficient on-page & off-page SEO activities. The entire chain makes your efforts worth.

It's just 3 weeks and you are expecting to rank your website which is on six. Make sure on-page is properly optimized and building relevant links from good domains!
keyword also plays an important role in SEO. So choose it wisely.

As you’ve probably already discovered, ranking in Google’s results is easier said than done.

No one needs to tell you that there are millions of different websites trying to steal your rankings and, in some cases, many of those competitors succeed. Of course, you don’t want them to. But beating them isn’t a matter of simply publishing content and hoping for the best.

I think you are doing everything right but few things I want to mention to you that:" Local Business on google rank up if you do proper citation for your business location". It's not all about backlinks its all about citation. Recruit Expert person/agency to do that task for you.

We are experts in Local Citation for any business. Contact us if you want to gave us a chance to work for you. Mail me  @ pankajratan11@gmail.com . We will surly rank your local business in the top position within 2-3 weeks.

1. First of all, you have to do keyword research properly according to the web-page of the website.
2. Choose at-least 5–6 keywords including long-tail keywords for each web page of the website.
3. Now you have to place targeted keywords at the right place- your primary keywords and secondary keywords should be in web-page meta title and make sure your title under 60 characters as well as attractive.
4. Put your primary & secondary keywords in each web-page meta description and make sure description length should be between 155–165 characters.

Hello,
Looking at the competition you have locally for 'therapist rockville md' I wonder if it might help if you identify what type of therapist you are.
I do not know how big Rockville, Maryland is but is there an opportunity to home in on a specific area or suburb to start with.
Finally, I would not predict, however, if you define your offer and your location more specifically, and build that into your title, description, content, headings / sub-headings, Google My Business profile and submit the edited pages via Google Search Console I see no reason why you should not be listed fairly quickly. (Bearing in mind, of course, that I have not seen your site and do not know the quality of your page content.)
Best of luck
Neil

Hey,

First of all, it is commendable that you are doing SEO for your website by yourself. And getting good results take time so don't panic. Just consider a few things while working on it.

1. Apt keyword research is very important in SEO.
2. Target your keywords at the right place according to the content.
3. Make sure all your titles and meta descriptions are well optimized.
4. While working on link building, make sure you getting 60:40 ratio of do-follow and no-follow links. Remember, only no-follow links won't help your website grow.
5. Do work on both on-page and off-page optimization to rank in SERP.
