Dedicated IP address vs. Dedicated Server

Hi, I have 13 domains being hosted under a single IP address/same server. It is not a dedicated server or a dedicated IP address. It is basic hosting through GoDaddy. Two of the sites (domains) get a high amount of traffic- when I mean high I mean about 300-400 impressions per day plus maybe 15 clicks per day. I do advertising and PR for my husband's law firm and am a novice at SEO and web design. Over the last year, I have learned a lot though and love to learn more when I have the time.  My question is- I got an error message from Google on my webmaster account this evening saying that when Google Bots tried to access the one site, they timed out and received no response from the DNS - GoDaddy. The issue, they think, was caused by too many domains being on one shared account. Should I look into getting a dedicated IP address for all domains and also getting a dedicated server? do I have to do both or is one more important for SEO? We do not need an SSL cert as we don't do any e-commerce. Our sites are informational only. Thank you all for your time and help.

Firstly, having multiple domains hosted on a shared server is a common practice, especially for basic hosting through providers like GoDaddy. From an SEO perspective, the issue of the Google bot timing out and receiving no response from the DNS could be due to the shared hosting environment, especially if the server is struggling to handle the load from higher traffic sites.

Getting a dedicated IP address can help to some extent. A dedicated IP ensures that your website has its own unique address on the web, which can be beneficial for SEO as it may improve site loading times and provide more stability for your high-traffic domains.

However, if you have two sites with considerably high traffic, it might be beneficial to consider upgrading to a dedicated server. This will provide you with more resources and better performance, potentially resolving the timeout issues experienced by Google bots. Additionally, a dedicated server offers you full control over your hosting environment, which can be helpful when optimizing for search engines.

As for SSL certificates, while you mentioned that your sites are informational only and don't conduct e-commerce, having an SSL certificate can still benefit your SEO. Google prefers secure websites and may give a slight ranking boost to sites with HTTPS. It also builds trust with visitors, as they see the padlock symbol indicating a secure connection.

Here are some additional considerations:

1. Dedicated IP Address: A dedicated IP address can help in situations where shared hosting might cause issues with the DNS, as in the case you've described. It can provide more stability and control over your domains' online presence. This can be especially helpful for SEO if you want to ensure that each domain is uniquely identified in the eyes of search engines.

2. Dedicated Server: Considering the significant traffic on a few of your domains, moving to a dedicated server can greatly improve performance and resource allocation. This would provide more computing power, memory, and bandwidth for those high-traffic sites, potentially reducing instances of timeouts and ensuring better responsiveness for Google bots and site visitors.

3. SSL Certificates: While your sites are informational, having SSL certificates installed across all your domains can still bring SEO benefits. As mentioned earlier, it can enhance security and trust, contributing to a positive user experience and potentially influencing search engine rankings.

In summary, while acquiring a dedicated IP address may help to some extent, given the traffic levels, transitioning to a dedicated server will likely have a more substantial impact on the performance and SEO of your websites. Consider implementing SSL certificates across your domains to further enhance security and trust, which can indirectly contribute to improved SEO.

Consider upgrading to a dedicated server for two sites with considerably high traffic! It will resolve the error mostly. Also, share the screenshot of that Seach console error to see if any important thing is missing to share!

A distinct numerical label that is assigned to your website is called a dedicated IP address.
A dedicated server gives you use of a whole physical server just for your website.

A dedicated IP address provides a unique identifier for a specific website or service, while a dedicated server offers exclusive use of an entire physical server, catering to broader resource and performance needs.
