On page optimization is done on a website and its webpages e.g. writing its content, meta tags, and placing internal links. Off page optimization is done outside the website by putting its links on other websites.

    Optimized internal links
Text Formatting (use of h1,h2,bold etc)
Image optimization (image size, proper image names, use of ALT tag)
    User friendly 404 pages
    Fast loading pages
Google Authorship verification for all pages
Top quality fresh content (This is always the most important SEO factor!)
External links (no broken links or links to 'bad' sites)

On page seo involves the building up of the website with proper tags, content, design and navigation. Off page seo involves the promotion and marketing part of  the website where we rank the website in search engines and also build traffic from various sources.

In search engine optimization, on-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are controlled by you or by coding on your page. Examples of on-page optimization include actual HTML code, meta tags, keyword placement and keyword density. While off-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site or Web page listing in natural search results. These factors are off-site in that they are not controlled by you or the coding on your page. Examples of off-page optimization include things such as link popularity and page rank.

On-Page SEO is the SEO on your actual page or blog. One of the most popular ways that search engines worldwide tend to rank websites is by looking for the prominence and frequency of certain keywords and phrases on various facets of your site, and assigning an appropriate degree of weight accordingly. More weight is given to keywords and phrases that are used in prominent places such as headings, page titles, domain names, and images.Off-Page SEO is the use of keywords off your site. Search engines use mentions of your site, business name, and keywords used on other places across the web in order to determine your ranking in their results. Great ways to optimize your off-page SEO value on your own include setting up social media accounts on popular sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ .
