I think not so, you have to post relevant site, and unique content in appropriate category. Always maintain quality not quantity.

Directories have a bad name currently in the SEO world, since Panda and Penguin and Poodle smashed many of them out of the park for good reason. That bad reputation may stop some in my profession from purchasing a listing or even wanting a free listing.

Directory Submission is not dead although there are very few people who do directory submission nowadays as some feel that it impacts your Search engine rankings. I feel that Directory submission can still be done provided that you do it on High quality sites with High domain authority

I think don't need to do directory submission, because it will take lots of time for approval. Content marketing is only an essential option to get unique result.

If you can create a Directory Listing that people really use.
Then yeah they are great.

In general they are pretty thin sites, and shouldn't build a ton of links on them.

Directory submission is not completely dead. It works but it takes too much time. And yes instead of that content marketing is best option to do.

Directory submission is no more helpful as Google considers these websites are thin sites with very less content. Hence these websites are rarely crawled and indexed today.
