Title: Do nofollow links affect DA or site rank
Post by: aleph on 03-29-2017, 23:27:02
I keep getting different opinions on this one. If a link is tagged "nofollow" is it going to affect site rank at all? I can't tell how much effort I should be putting into this. I'm active on forums and post good relevant content that includes links. Honestly don't really mind the effort, but not sure if it's having any actual effect.

The Google answer is No, but the real answer is yes slightly. Generally you want to make your site look as natural as possible and this means getting both nofollow and dofollow links. For example links from Wiki are nofollow but have huge trust benefits in Google's eyes. This is the same for a number of social accounts too.

So to answer your question, yes they do. But not as much.

I completely agree with you, website need to have combination of both Dofollow as well as Nofollow backlinks. Even though Nofollow links doesn't pass link juice, but it does help to increase the traffic if you are getting link from Niche website.

Similarly, all social accounts have Nofollow link, but it helps to generate brand awareness, increase the brand visibility and to reach to target audience.

I agree with all of you. However I think is impossible to determine with certainty whether nofollow backlinks affect in some way directly on page rank/Domain Authority.
I read some times ago about an experiment: a site with nofollow links from youtube gained position in SERP! I don't if the research is a reliable one, though...

Dofollow links are an HTML attribute that is used to allow search bots to follow the links. If a webmaster is link to your site with dofollow link, search engine bots and people can follow you. They pass on link juice and really benefit your website to get a high Page Rank.
I mean Do follow affect site rank then site rank rise the DA of website.

In my opinion, both [dofollow] and [nofollow] links are important. If your site has only dofollow links, Google may consider it as not normal site, then your site rank may also be effected.

No follow links are not crawled and indexed by search engines and hence they are not used to build your website ranking in search engines. They also do not effect domain authority. Only do follow links are helpful to increase the DA for your website.

The value of Quora is meeting like minded people, building knowledge and sharing ideas to enhance the job you do and to make contacts.
In terms of SEO, a personal brand is important and as you build knowledge and skill then you will begin to be recognised and respected within your community and then you may start to realise some SEO related benefits.

No-follow links aren't worthless. They do count. Not as much as a do-follow, but they do count, especially if they are from a high authority site.

It is also important to remember, that having a natural link-profile is the key to good rankings. And a natural link-profile consists of both do and no-follow links :)
