Post Duplicate content issue while moving from http to https
We have changed our domain from HTTP TO HTTPS

But Google is showing the duplicate content error for (http://www.demosite.com) we have used htaccess redirect for our site but still showing error.

so should we use a canonical tag on https site or http site plz help?

First in Google Search Console (Google Webmaster Tool) prove your ownership for both versions; then in search console in the search settings there is option for site preference then select which version you want to keep. Then you do not have to get duplicate content issue from Google.

Hey,
go through you question, i think the problem is in the redirection which is done from htaccess. you have put the redirection code at wrong place or the whole code is wrong.

Step 1: Redirect seo 301 http to https by editing your .htaccess file as follow:
Step 2: Make sure that your website and web pages source code contains a canonical tag is pointing to https NOT http example of a homepage:
Step 3: Login to your webmaster tools and add a new website but make sure to use https://youwebsite.com. After you have done that, in the same webmaster tools console find your old website as HTTP http://yourwebsite.com and then use the change address tool to move http address to https: https://support.google.com/webmaster...er/83106?hl=en

1. Make sure it 301 redirects from http to https
2. Add https version of the url as the canonical on each page
