Hello,
i have currently been put in charge of a newly lauched website, and i have been told that i need to enter information into the SEO section. This information consists of Meta Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords. From what i have been reading google doesnt use Meta Keywords anymore.

But what i do need help with is the Meta Description as i am still fairly new to this. Could anyone give my any tips on what i need to have in the Meta Description?

You need to have a very descriptive sentence about the page you are putting it on. The meta description shows on search results so it is to be something that tells what the page is all about, something that users will read and click on. Having a great meta description is very important. If users tend to click on your site your click through rate will improve. So if you want that to happen you must have a great meta title and meta description.

The others pretty much covered on how to do it and all but I hope my comment gives you a better idea of what you need to have in it.

To write a meta description you need to write about your particular webpage. But keep in mind the length of characters. Meta description characters should not be exceed from 160 characters including spaces.

This is a quite useful meta tag as, very simply, it explains to search engines and searchers themselves what your page is about. The meta description is the most important feature for improving click-through rate from search results pages.

Write good meta titles and descriptions of your webpages. Title should have 45 to 50 characters and description should have 150 to 160 character including spaces. Titles and descriptions are fetched by search engines when online users make searches regarding their keywords. You may not mention keywords in Keyword tag because search engine takes these keywords from your titles, descriptions, and content of a webpage.

Meta description is used to give a brief idea/overview about your website to users & search engines. Put your site description in shot (Upto 150 characters) in this category. Use most valuable words that best describes to your site.

Your title should have 45 to 50 character with spaces. Description should have 160 characters for better performance. You should write content for online users. Your websites should have mobile responsive web design. Its download time should also be fast. Keep keyword density in mind while writing content and meta tags. Enhance user experience.

A meta description is an HTML and XHTML element that describes your page to search engines. While the perceived (and real) importance of meta data has depreciated, the attribute still plays a significant role in SEO rankings.
